Tachometer goes up to 4K when braking for downhill

I have a 2009 Camry base model with about 1500 miles. Today, when I was going downhill, I tried to brake to control the speed. Suddenly, the tachometer went up to 4k and a loud engine noise went out, the speed didn't change much. After I got down the hill, everything back to normal, a quite and smooth car again. When I drove back passing the same hill, the same thing happened again. Could anyone tell me what's the problem with my car?

Yes, cruse control only controls engine functions, it does not control braking.

08 Chevy express van 1500. Front brakes? grab on turns when going downhill on tight turns.

If it were the brakes, It would do it all the time. Like missing bolts. I would look at the inside of the tire and see if it is rubbing the inner fender well(crunch sound) and possibly rubbing the frame(sudden grabbing). Part of the fender well will be eaten away and the frame would be shiny. Haven't heard this with the express, but have done plenty of vehicles that had this problem. Mostly misalignment and rack problems.

Check engine light came on after +/- 1000 miles with less than 1/4 tank of fuel. Gas cap was rechecked. Light does not go out. Vehicle was refueled, and now has close to 1500 miles on it. Light stays on...

You may be low on oil. If not, you are still under full warranty, so pay a visit to your dealer. If you ignore the warning then you may damage your engine and reduce the life of your vehicle.

2009 Toyota Camry problems

All Toyota auto trans cars downshift when descending a hill when you tap the brake. This is called "Downhill Shift Logic"; what this is for is to eliminate the double shift when you come to the bottom of a hill and then accelerate. Normal condition. Usually happens above 38 MPH.
Also: The cruise will accelerate when going uphill. Normal condition.Plus: The cruise will not disengage back to the set MPH after you top the hill. Toyota recommends to disengage the cruise when encountering steep terrain.
