IS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON AND FLASHING? IF SO THEN YOU HAVE A MISFIRE. I WOULD REPLACE THE PLUGS AND WIRES. IF NOT THEN IT COULD BE THAT YOU NEED A FUEL FILTER. I WOULD ALSO RECOMEND THAT YOU RUN SOME SEA FOAM THROUGH THE FUEL SYSTEM. YOU CAN GET SEA FOAM FROM ANY PARTS STORE FOR ABOUT $9.00 A CAN.

Or you could just buy a couple bottles of gas line antifreeze and try that. add one right away and one at your next fill up.

My 1998 cavalier runs good but when going 55mph. The car starts jerking

Most likely it is the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). Since 55 mph is a relatively constant speed for many drivers, the TPS get a work spot at that location and causes signal drop out to the ECM, resulting in a jerking feeling almost like a high speed intermittent engine misfire.

Why does my ford explorer start and idle good but after it warms up it loses all power back fires and fuel pressure drops to 0 psi

It may well be that your fuel pump has seen better days. An in-tank pump actually does a lot of work lifting the fuel and pushing it to the engine (that's why some vehicles have a second fuel pump fitted - to assist).

I once owned A VW that had the same symptoms as you describe. Sometimes, at speed, it would just cut out.

It was the fuel pump at fault and a new one cured the problem.
It was almost as if the old fuel pump would work properly for a while and then cut out. It would deliver fuel at the correct pressure for a while and then...

Sounds likes trans problem common to the Explorer, try changing the transmission fluid (mercon V) and add an anti-shudder additive. Does it happen mostly between 45-60 mph?

I would suggest you have the fuel pressure monitored while driving, this takes special equipment. Also have a functional test run on the engines automatic idle speed control system, you could have a defective idle speed control valve.

My 1998 ford explorer jerks when I am driving it. I was told it could be a transmission speed sensor. input or output I don't know which. help

Lot's of things can make it ****. The transmission can but engine missfires are more likly. Is the check engine light on? Transmission failure your refering to will turn the check engine light on. Many auto parts stores will connect a scanner to your can at no charge to see what codes are stored in the (engine control computer) The transmission control module is also connected the the ECM and the codes can be read. Some codes will be stored and not trun the check engine loight on as they may help you decide the course of action.

2002 Ford Explorer Jerking when in motion

Does the jerking feel like a fish bite ( especially when pulling a hill?) if so it may need plugs and wires

if you have one bad plug wire the problem seems to smooth out at higher speeds

Hope this helps
