Is the smoke coming from under the hood or out the exhaust? If it's under the hood you probably have an oil leak which is blowing away while you are driving so you acutally don't see it, but it's still smoking.
If it's out the exhaust, then you have a leak from the cooling system which is going into the engine and being blown out the exhaust (white smoke burned up by exhaust).

It sounds like you have brought a lemon as if it hard to start when cold then its lacking compression which is worn engine piston rings and valve guides, and if it starts smoking when driving and if its BLUE smoke then its bad piston rings And if its BLACK smoke then its to much petrol getting into the engine which will also cause the engine to wear out quick as its washing the bores with fuel instead of oil,and that will also stop the engine from starting when hot,
SO if its BLUE smoke replace the engine
If BLACK smoke repair fuel fault.
Replace the ignition module, they are bad to go out like this, when the engine warms up,the ignition module goes into a mode ,and the mode is not there for it to go to ,If this was at all helpful, please rate, thank you.
Check O2/mapp sensor. Also if you can elaborate on the behavior of the engine as it stalls, is there smoke, does it race then suddenly die out or does it barely run at a very slow unsteady idol until it floods out? hey there are couple of smoke type.blue smoke is oil, black smoke is fuel, and white smoke is
water, if it clears after starting and running a few minutes it's probably your
valve guide seals leaking oil down on top of your pistons, causing it to smoke
until burned off and foul your plugs.
