Question about 1998 Ford Escort

1 Answer

Hey, you seem very knowledgeable.

I have been reading your answers, I have just discovered this site and have been fixing cars for 30 years, and you really know your stuff. I am trying to learn this site and how to capitalize on it. Any suggestions?

Thank you for your request. It is funny you should ask that. I stumbled on to Fixya about a month ago while looking for an answer for a problem and while looking at someone's question I thought "Heck! I know what's wrong with this person's problem" and so on an impulse, I signed up and answered his question (right at this point, I can't remember if I helped that first person or not! must be getting old!). If you are really looking to make money off the site, sign on alot and always list yourself as avaible and answer the questions that will make you money, but be aware that those questions get droves of answers so you have to be quick on the draw. I must admit I must be touched in the head because I like answering questions that relate to the computer field because I work in it for 8+ hours a day. I figure if you can answer a question without being at or around the equipment it will help your mental process when you do have that happen at work. Or lets put it this way, it helps me in my daily work and helps keep it fresh in my mind, your milage may vary. I also try and answer questions that I know I can explain and I try to remember what it was like to know nothing about the questions I'm answering and fashion my answer to help the people who truly don't know, care or understand why the answer works but to give them the information they need to either fix their problem or make an informed decision about how to proceed to fix their problem, The site is pretty straight forward for the most part and isn't hard to learn but remember that is coming from a person who has had a computer since 1984 and hasn't been without a computer since I purchased my first computer. I hope that answers your questions and If I can help again, please ask. It might take me a day or two to answer (sometimes life gets a bit crazy!) but I will answer when I get the chance to.

Once again, thank you for asking, I hope that helps!

SOURCE: I have freestanding Series 8 dishwasher. Lately during the filling cycle water hammer is occurring. How can this be resolved

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Can I reset the engine management by disconnecting the battery if it's gone into limp mode

NO
disconnecting the battery some times fixes minor problems but generally it creates more than it solves
read the fault codes first to find the area problem so that it can be fixed , then use the scan tool to reset the ECM

Do you ever fricking answer a ? I posted the hammer question over a week ago. If this. Is your rate of answer frick it, this site sucks

Richard. This site is "manned" with volunteers for answering questions. Every one has his / her speciality. I invest some hours, to see if I can help anyone. I do have to skip the questions I can't answer. My knowledge is in electronics, photography and a little less about cars and engines. Mechanical tools are not in my knowledge base, so I skip those.
It could be last week no one with the right knowledge to answer noticed your question. You did not have the luck to get an answer. Lots of people do get an answer, and I know as soon as they get a good answer they are pleased. Lots of people thanked me for my answers. These "thank you Harrie" is everything I answer for. I understand you are disappointed your question was not answered, and I can't answer it, because I don't know enough about drill hammers. But is that a reason to give an opinion like this?
I could understand your reaction, if you had payed for an answer and nothing was delivered. But it hurts me to read your question here. This is everything I want to say.
Sorry.

How can i fix

Michael, do you have a question for us on Fixya? or are you just posting statements?
To give a question a chance to be answered, please give as much details as you have. Brand, model, error you discovered, things you already tried to solve the problem and what you think we can help with. We can't read thoughts, only answer questions.

Why is answering a question on this site so difficult?

That is a very good question. I've been after FixYa for years to fix some of the things they've done to their site, yet it seems that every month they do something else to make it even harder.

How to fix the code p0440

no jeep or year stated, are you kidding? nor engine option.
x3 hard failure....!!! strike 3 your out? nah. ill try.

ok, millions of folks now have posted 440, to the net.
you can google it ,or read the FSM. I cant help with no year/engine or body, you never said what body car is, wrangler, GC ? what?

440 the is a federal USA standard code P0 means that.
440 is EVAP errors (gas tank venting tests failed, bar stool answer)
why not do as all others do with out the fancy EVAP tests system.
(i built my own)
1: tighten the gas cap , reset the DTCs with the scan tool button and drive and hope it dont come back, millions served !
2: panic, (i would) and buy a new real jeep spec,.gas cap. bingo.?
no bingo.
3: read the fsm;. on EVAP check all hoses for fell off and cracks

its all here if lucky (no year or car stated)
http://www.jeep4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service

lots more can be bad. lots of test. the first it to find which path is leaking or if the check circuits are bad.

1993 mustang 2.3l trouble; rough starts, sluggish acceleration, jerks when accelerating at higher speeds, and hard shifts into second gear, oh and shifter likes to pop into reverse from park... HELP!

You apparently have no knowledge of the current OBD
systems or the previous systems, for the last 30 years or
more

You have to have exhaust converters & oxygen sensors
in order to have fuel control

You sort of bought a problem & added to it

Google OBD2 Systems & read up on what your asking

e.g. How a car actually works

Your sort of living in the 1970's--- today you need to know
electronics & theory

The wish & hope-- push & poke repair days are gone
