Question about 1998 Chevrolet Suburban

98 Suburban Brake and hazard lights don't work

My qtr panel brake lights don't work, although the roof brake light works just fine. My emergency hazards flasher have now stopped working as well, any idea what's wrong? Some suggested replace the bulb panels but I find it strange that they both would fail at the same time.

Moisture in the lens assembly can lead to corrosion in the socket. Here's what I would do:

~Remove the lens assembly and take all the bulbs out of it.
~Get the inside as dry as possible. Blow out with compressed air, leave out to dry (overnight?) in a non-humid place, whatever works.
~Carefully inspect the lens to see how the water got in, then seal any cracks, holes, or faulty seams with clear silicone-in-a-tube.
~Alternatively, buy a new (or used) lens assembly.

~Carefully inspect the socket for any signs of corrosion. If there is corrosion, replace the socket. Coat the inside of the socket, including the terminals, with silicone grease.

~Replace the bulb.

The above should yield a permanent fix. Now, if the socket's not corroded, just replacing the bulb may solve the current problem. However, if the moisture issue isn't dealt with, there likely will be further problems down the road.

due to moisture or corroding there is a possibility of shorting in ur hazard flashing module... check that out.... make sure ur battery is off.... while ur fixing it....

thank you
have a nice day
hope i was able to fix ur problem
good luck with ur brake lights

No turn signals, brake lights. have tails lights. all fuses in fuse box under check out ok

The turn signals and the brake lights go through the hazard switch. Try cycling it a few times and see if that solves the problem. If the fuses are good and the 4way's don't work, I would suspect that switch.

if the bulbs are good then you may want to check for power at the bulb sockets. the circuit boards on the brake light housing goes bad and looks for ground on an adjacent circuit.

Have a 1999 Chev. Suburban. Problem is with brake lights. Top panel (on roof) works but neither side panel works. Replaced circut boards in tail lights, new bulbs, and all fuses are good. What next?

WITH A GOOD FUSE TESTER, TEST ALL THE FUSES FUSEBOX UNDER THE HOOD & INSIDE THE VEHICLE. IF THE FUSES ARE ALL GOOD WITH THE TESTER YOU MUST HAVE A BAD BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH OR A BAD TURN SIGNAL SWITCH. THE BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT GOES UP THROUGH THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH & THEN TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS. FIRST OF ALL IS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH GOOD ? THE ORANGE WIRE FEEDS THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH, THE WHITE WIRE PUTS POWER TO THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH, SO THE LIGHTS CAN BE USED AS TURN LIGHTS OR BRAKE LIGHTS. , PUT A TESTER IN THE WHITE WIRE & PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THE TEST LIGHT LIGHTS UP, BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH IS GOOD, BY THE WAY THE BRAKE LIGHT FUSE MAY BE LABELED" STOP", THE FUSE LABELED" BRAKE" IS FOR THE ABS SYSTEM. TO CHECK THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH FOR BRAKE LIGHTS, REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER FROM UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL, PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, PUT THE TESTER IN THE SMALL YELLOW WIRE, THEN THE SMALL GREEN WIRE. IF THERE IS NO POWER IN EITHER WIRE, THE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH IS BAD.

98 Suburban Brake and hazard lights don't work

Check for power and ground at the two panel lights. GM uses a cheep circuit board design, they overheat and corrode on the other side of the board. not serviceable.
