If the defroster was on then the air cond compressor was running.and you may want to add that to your list of things to check .the a/c is used in winter on defrost to help remove moisture from the air and the windshield

Have an '86 F250 v8 460 engine. Defrost problem, when it is cold and I run the defroster it produces a haze on the glass and the smell of antifreeze fills the cab. I can see at the bottom of the w

You will need to replace the heater core. It obviously has a small crack or hole in it and that is where the steam on your windsheild and the smell of antifreeze is coming from.

1988 Ford F250, 4.9L engine. Runs sluggish

EGR is maybe stuck open. disconnect the vac hose at the EGR valve and see if the idle smoothes out. If the EGR is sitcking open, thats a vac leak. If that fixes it, replace the EGR solenoid valve.

Check your vacuum lines, make sure there is no leaks, and go from there, then all you electrical connection in the engine compartment.
I have a 1996 Jetta Trek Edition, the hoses, and wire harness, are so brittle, any movement can cause hoses and wire insulation to crack.

I get a gas odor in the interior of my 1996 land rover discovery only when I open the windows. There is no leak from what I can see. The car runs fine at speed but dies occasionally at idle.

The gas smell is from your tail door seal, the window that is open causes a vacuum from this area , adjust the door to close tighter or replace the seal.V8 idling problem ,remove and clean the idle control valve situated on the rhs rear of the intake manifold (seen from the drivers seat )adjust the idling on the allen key screw near to the throttle cable lincage.
