I REPLACED THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF MINE AND WE USED A HYDRAULIC JACK AND THE WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK TO PRESS THEM OUT AND A BALL PING HAMMER TO PUT THEM BACK.

DJ, I don't have one to look at but many cars are riveted and the will have to be drilled out for bolts, others just bolt on the A-arms. And the last one I did was a ford and the lower ball joint was pressed in. I hope this helps, It should be easy to just look and them and see what holds them to the arm

Hope this helps you some?

I am sorry a bit of misinformation there, the lower ball joint is most probably pressed in to the steering knuckle Since it is a 4x4

How do you change a front axle u-joint on a 2006 3500 dodge ram

you will have to change both sides to start with. I'm doing this on a 1996 ram 1500. first, put the truck on 2 wheel drive or neutral for traction, raise vehicle, i got a lift it's easy, remove both wheels, calipers and rotors. unlock the driveshaft nut (cotter pin) and unbolt that nut. on the inside of the hub, first mark the relation on one side between the yoke and the shaft, then, there is 3 bolts holding the hub in, remove them. next, more cotter pins, upper and lower ball joint and tie-rod end need to come out, so, unscew the tie-rod end first and seperate it with ball joint seperator. do the same for the upper and lower ball joints. seperate the spindle and the axel should come out. the rest is standard procedure to change a ball joint.
let me know if it's enough info or if you want more please.

Upper ball joint removal

I have a 98 dodge ram 4wd, and i am an auto mechanic. I replaced all 4 ball joints and both axle joints and did my front end alignment in about 4 hours. The ball joints are pressed into the front axle yoke holes. If you have a ball joint press tool (which i used) it works out pretty easily in a decent amount of time. Otherwise if your lucky, you could use a hammer, which is not nearly as easy. Also, sometimes depending on how long and rusted the front end is, you might have to heat up the area a little with a torch.I also recommend using the best ball joints you can afford, because it would **** to have to do it all again after another 10,000-60,000 miles.

Ball Joints

I highly recommend that you have a press available, they dont screw in unfortunatly.
To change uper ball joints; Remove tire Pull codder pin and remve nut Tap ball joint out of wheel/ brake assembly Remove upper control arm compleatly Use Press to push old ball joint out of controll arm.
A torch may be nessisary to heat controll arm. Press new ball joint all the way into controll arm Reinstall every thing Get a professional front end alignment.

Good lcuk and hope this helps.

1996 Dodge 4x4 1 ton leaking pasenger front seal how to replace?

if u have u joints there should not any fluid near your bearing other than grease... if it is leaking anything other than that it is probably brake fluid... i would suggest checking your brake cylinder and brake line leading along side the passenger side

just tare the axels down and pull the brake callipers and brake disks, to get to the ball joints. un bolt the nuts and take the peice holding the ball joints in and  then press out . But you need a ball joint press if you wanna do it on your own
