Question about 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix

Starts and stalls

1999 Grand Prix - unless I keep the gas pressed after starting, it stalls. And when pressing the gas (tried driving it the other day) it seems to go sometimes but acts like it's choking and then will stall.

Whats wrong now?

I have a 1999 Grand Prix with a 3800 engine I recently Replaced the Fuel pump and filter after running the tank dry while in a ditch with the front end facing downward. Car ran find for a couple of week but I could smell gas in the car sometimes. Two days ago the car stalled while it was being driven. I could start it as long as i held down on the accelerator but if I let up it would die. I had it towed home and I went over it checking everything I had done. while tring to figure the problem out I disconnected the MAF sensor and the car runs perfect. they are expensive so I don't want to just run out and buy a new one. Has anyone had a simular experience or any insite I would love to hear what you have to say.

i have a 2000 grand prix gt 3800 II engine. the issue that i have is that is stalls while driving. the issue has happened both at idle speeds and highways speeds.this issue happens quit inconsistantly, sometimes 4 days apart, others 7 to 10 days. i have had it to a repair shop several times and no one can get the car to misperform. it appears so far that if the rpms drop below 1500-2000 rpm the engine will stall out. the engine also tries to correct its self automatically by increasing and decreasing the rpms. i dont know the specific codes names from the diagnostics port but i i get several oxygen sensor codes and misfire codes, though when at the repair shop these oxygen sensors when tested displayed the correct voltage (per the statement of the repair person).
if the car is restarted it may take several (10-20) attemps to stay on, if the accelerator is depressed immediately after the restart is may stall out again. if left to idle for a several minutes it may correct it self and be ok for several days.

I had a similar problem on my 1999 Grand Prix, 3.8l engine. I replaced the IAC Motor (Idle Air Control) that attaches into the throttle body. After disconnecting the battery, the computer goes into a learning process. It stalled once, but now seems to be running correctly. The codes set were Engine Misfire, which could be anything. I also bought a crank sensor, which is suspect, but I didn't install it.

This is actually a pontiac issue, I'm not positive if its a recall yet, but there are many noted service issues. Take it to a dealer and ask them about it, if it has became a recall they will fix it for free.

My 1999 grand prix stalls and dies at stops.

My Pontiac Grand Prix is also a 99, it has 216,+ thousand miles on it, it runs great, idles good, I need to replace the oxygen sensor tho as it shuts off on me while driving or sometimes coming to a stop. You might try checking the fuel filter and pump as well.

check all fuses for turn signal and brake lights.change fuel filter . first. do a little tune up change spark plugs and wires . if changing fuel filter dont help. have fuel pressure check first before buying a new fuel pump .they run after taxes 400.00 dollars. your fuel pressure should be 41 to 47 psi. replace fuel pump relay also.

ENGINE STALLS WHEN I STEP ON GAS PEDAL

Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad! The more you press on the pedal the more demand is on the pump and it cant keep up cuz its junk. Try to limp it to a shop to replace it, unless u wanna do that yourself.....
