Not a pump in the tank - but the feul pump gets its power from the oil pressure switch on some models

Nope.. It's probably your pump mounted injection module (or injection pump) what ever you wanna call it.. A little control box up in the engine compartment next to the intake.. little 4 wire connection.. Pain in the **** expensive..

I have a 1992 toyota pickup ext cab, 4x4 V6 420 000 km. I have swapped the engine out for a 1994 toyota 4runner V6 220 000km, same identical engine. i replaced the timing, intake seals, oil pan seal,...

Try a hot wire to the distributor. If the engine keeps running then the problem may lie with the ignition circuit wiring. It also might be the ceramic resistor.

I have a 2005 silverado 5.3 2wd ext cab. the engine loses power when there is a 1/4 tank of gas. when you put gas in the tank the power returns but not quite 100%. what to check?

Sounds like you may have a inaccurate fuel sending card in the tank where the gauge shows 1/4 tank but may be closer to empty. And when the tank is that low the pump screen could be sucking air but also accumalating debris that was floating in tank and partially blocking your fuel pump pickup screen.

Sounds like pump drawing too much current , and by putting in a heavier fuse like that your just asking for a fire. Have a fuel pressure test done, that should confirm if pump shot. My guess is that it is. You have tried new fuel filter to see if that helps at all didn't you? When/if you pull the pump out, have a look for excessive dirt, which is always a consideration. Any blockage will make pump work harder, thus cause a higher amperage situation also.

1994 Toyota Truck 22R Engine (ext.cab,4x4,5 speed man.) Is it best to remove the truck bed or lower the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel pump? 1994 Toyota Truck 22R Engine

If you're doing it by yourself, drop the fuel tank.
Make sure it's almost out of gas first.

If you pull the bed, it's the bolts that hold the bed in, the wiring to the tail lights, and the tank filler neck to take loose. Then you have to pick up the bed of the pickup (a couple hundred pounds).
To get the tank out, it's the filler neck, and unbolt the straps that hold it in. Depending on how much fuel is in it, is how much it's going to weigh.
But as you loosen the straps, you can use a floor jack to hold the tank up. Same when putting it back in.

So I would go with taking the tank out, and not pulling the bed off.
