The car battery died ( the kid left the rear cargo door open) and after I charged it (the battery) back up, the remote start would not function. It turns over for a couple seconds and it sounds like it starts but then turns off right away, it does this for three cycles then stops.

1st do you have a car starter installed if so sometimes the system conflicts with the other if not then you have a door lock actuator seizing up and stays open causing the alarm to go off or a hood switch sometimes build in the latch or a rear cargo or trunk switch or door switch or even a short in the bcm body control module so you have to check each and every system for there function to find the solution
key is manual lock and electric assisted unlock . charge the battery with red screw on fuse panel Use key to unlock turning to rear.
Place key in ignition then turn on and off 8 times leaving it in on position until it beeps approx 5 sec then press any button on the key and turn ignition off.
possibly it still thinks a door is open check out rear cargo door switch this is usually the culprit because its seperate from the rest of the doors. turn on rear cargo light to doors ,make sure it works then shut rear cargo door and see if light is still on. if light is still on theres your problem.
look at switch usually they get dammaged/distorted over time.
Call the dealer and give them your VIN#. There were some problems with the main wire to the starter. Then check the cables from the battery including the ground wires.
Your husband may have seen some corrosion on the wires to the starter. There may be corrosion on the battery junction on the firewall. Its where the alternator meets the charging sysem.
please confirm the year and model.... also ... try and locate the relay for rear cargo door... it's likely failed. it would be either located in the fuse panel under the dash or the fuse panel in the engine compartment near the battery.
