Question about 2006 Volkswagen New Beetle

Fueling problem causes gas pump to shut off

Every time we get gas, it's like the filler tube for the gas tank or the tank itself is not venting out the air being replaced by the gas. It backs up into the filler tube causing the gas pump to shut off. Gas must be pumped as slowly as possible. In a typical fill-up it will shut off the gas pump 20 - 25 times. And if you're not careful it'll overflow. Is this a known problem or recall? Should it be covered by warranty. It's a dangerous safety concern.

I have trouble filling gas tank on my 13 F-250 pump shuts off takes forever to fill. What might cause this?

The system not venting properly is usually the most common source of this issue. Check filler tube/vent tube for any restrictions. Also try keeping pump nozzle part way out of filler tube.If no restrictions found, possible defective tank vent valve on top of tank. Tank will usually have to be removed to access this valve

When I put gas in the tank, the pump cuts off several times like its full which it isn't. Any idea what causes that.

The vent valve is stuck closed or you have a pinched hose . It has to do with the Evaporative emission's system ! There is a charcoal canister under the vehicle that stores gas fumes and a vent valve that allows the air in the tank to escape while fueling the vehicle, an during use fuel expands an the fuel vapors get stored in the charcoal canister an at times the engine control module turns on a purge solenoid that is connected to a engine vacuum supply allowing the fuel vapors to drawn into the engine to be burned ! With my 2005 Chrysler Town and Country van, I have trouble fueling the vehicle. The nozzle keeps shutting off as if the gas tank is full. What do I need to do?

Usually a sign of a blockage in the vent pipe inside the filler tube, or the vent for the gas tank. Air pressure inside the tank has to be equalized as the fuel is added.

Gas pump shuts off like its full many times while trying to refuel.

Usually a blockage in the filler tube or a vent problem.
You may have to take the filler tube off and inspect it. There should be a tube inside or outside the pipe to allow air pressure in the tank to equalize.

2004 mercury sable gas go's into tank real slow

This is caused by an obstructed filler air pipe vent, this keeps the air from coming out of the tank as you fill, this causes the filler nozzle at the station to shut off as the gas backs up in the filler pipe, the air vent pipe is either kinked or blocked in some way. The vent tube runs down along side the gas fill tube and is all one part, replace it.

Can't fill fuel tank very quickly. As if a filter is plugged at the tank causing the fuel restriction into the tank.

Check for a foriegn object within the filler tube. I think that if the vent isnt open in the filler tube when fueling your car, this could cause the fuel nozzle to stop because of back pressure. Air needs to be released from the fuel tank as fuel enters the tank ,otherwise, this problem will occur. Have the vent inspected to see if theres a block or perhaps, theres something wedged in your filler tube. Im not sure if this car has a filter leading into the gas tank but if so, Id check that as well.

Fuel filling clicks off repeatedly when not full

i had the same problem on my 2003 vibe... they replaced the filler tube also and it didn't fix it then they replaced the entire fuel filling system including the venting tupe and located a bee hive honeycomb in the vent line and that was what was causing the problem and have no problems since. hope this helps.
