Astro 2001 loses power on hills

280,000 miles plus
freshly rebuilt transmission (works fine in flat country)
Do I need a compression test for the valves?
Do I need a new catalytic converter?

At this mileage I would test the following, fuel pressure under a load, engine compression, is it low? exhaust system back pressure for a poss Catalytic converter plugging issue.

It looks like your engine needs an overhaul. You can confirm by doing a compression test.

Why does it lose power going up hill and fine on level ground


if the transmission dont slip that means the engine lacks power.
(torque)
this can be from forgetting to do tune ups>? every 60k miles. or per the operators guide, some cars need spark plugs every 30k did you RTM read the manual yet>? please do.
in order of likely (not physics)
bad spark (misfire) induced low power.
bad fueling lean
bad fueling too rich. (more misfire spark plugs turn black (tips)
bad engine. (compression loss)
the rare CAT melted, (inside) and getter worse.

to solve a riddle we do tests. simple tests with simple tools.
do you want to guess or test. it's your call.

Low power ford escort 1994, weak on hills


325,000 miles,, jeez,,,, need a rebuild on that engine. You walk that far and tell me how you feel, worn out im guessing. new set of rings and bearings and give the poor thing its bang back. give it a compression test to confirm but my moneys on low compression ie old engine

My 2001 GMC Jimmy 4x4 Automatic with 84K miles. It winds when I put it in reverse and I think I only have 1st and 2nd gear. Additionally it revs high, like over 3000 rpm, delays and then eventually...


It winds up in 1st and then shifts right from 1st into 3rd. Then never shifts into 4th. Plus rev is gone. You broke the sun shell. The transmission will need to rebuilt or replaced.

No. It is still safe to change the transmission fluid and filter, in fact, it is recommended. Just make sure your fluid level is correct when you are done.

no, clean the 2 elements on your MAF sensor with carb cleaner and a tooth brush gently. you are running lean.
