Question about 2001 Dodge Neon
I am trying to check fuel pump , car has lost power and back fires when i give it gas but idles fine in park. replaced coil, injectors and fuel pump and still have the same problem. if i disconnect the fuel line from injector rail and place in bucket then turn key to on position gas spurts out for a second or so then stops . should there be a steady stream of gas with key in on postion? any suggestions? I'm really stuck
No... the spurt is a prime so to speak...do you have a distibutor? if so then pull the cap off...i had the exact same problem on my nissan and what happened was the o-ring on the dist. rotted out and oil leaked into the cap. if not then check you cam position sensor.. which usually is on the back side on the bell housing... neons are also notorious for oil leaks... check all the wires on the back side of the motor... oil may have deteriated them..
