Nope... it's on the bottom of the motor... or rather mounted there... i'm not familiar with that car... is the motor in sideways or front to back.... either way... the starter drives a gear on the back of the motor located where the transmission is bolted onto the motor. so look at that spot on either side of the motor on the bottom.. best to just lay on the ground and look up at the motor... unless you have car ramps you can drive the car up on. be sure to unhook the battery... usually two bolts hold it on.... drop the starter... unhook the cables and make sure you put them on the new starter the same way... mount the starter back on and tighten the bolts and you are good to go.

you do know for sure the issue is the starter ?

It's an internal pump that runs on the timing belt. So you have to pull everything off including the timing belt to replace it.

How to remove and replace transmission in 1999 plymouth voyager van

VAN NEEDS TO BE ON A LIFT AND IN NEUTRAL/REMOVE BATTERY/REMOVE FT.WHEELS/BOTH CV DRIVE AXLES/STARTER/LABEL AND REMOVE ALL WIRING CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO THE TRANS...(BE SURE TO LABEL WHERE ALL WIRING CONNECTORS GO SO YOU WILL KNOW FOR SURE WHERE THEY GO WHEN YOU RE-INSTALL NEW TRANS)...YOU CAN ALSO TAKE PHOTO'S IF YOU HAVE NO WAY TO LABEL THEM.ALSO BE SURE ALL NUMBERS AND LETTERS ON NEW TRANS MATCH OLD TRANS.
AFTER ALL WIRING IS DISCONNECTED REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER PLATE TO REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER BOLTS...OR SOME CAN BE REMOVED FROM STARTER LOCATION.
REMOVE ANY ENGINE COMPONENTS/RADIATOR/COOLING FAN/DOGBONE MOUNTS/SKID PLATES EXHAUST SYSTEM ANYTHING IN THE WAY BUT BE POSITIVE OF LOCATION TO RE-ASSEMBLE IN CORRECT ORDER..etc..
NEXT BE SURE IT IS SECURE FROM TOP AND BOTTOM FOR SAFETY BEFORE REMOVAL,...
IT IS BEST TO USE ENGINE HOIST AND A TRANS JACK FOR SAFETY...IF IT IS FT. WHEEL DRIVE.REMOVE BOLTS THAT MOUNTS IT TO ENGINE....REMOVE TRANS/RE-INSTALL IN REVERSE ORDER...........FOR FT.WHEEL DRIVE.

I am thinking of buying 1999 mercury cougar auto trans V6, ad says needs gear postion sensor. Should I buy? IF YES HOW DO CHANGE GEAR POSITION SENSOR, HOW MUCH?

I have one of those cars and personally, would not recommend it to anyone period...same year, with the 2.5l v6 and auto, it just hit 103,000 miles and its poor quality car, front end shakes with new tires, had to replace rear hubs which are same as a Ford Contour(also junk) there are alot of similarities to the contour... took it off the road and replaced it with a 1997 civic 5 spd with 169,000 miles...problem solved

Where is the ignition coil on the engine? I cannot locate the spark plugs either it's a v6 1999 lexus rx300

the back plugs are under the intake plenum. Tey can be changed without pulling the plenum but for a novice it may be easier to remove the plenum. The fronts are under the engine cover that says v-6...3000..v v t i, etc. Remove that cover and you will either see three coils or three wires. The plugs will be under those.

Battery light stays on 2000 mercury cougar with v6 engine battery light stays on

Your alternator isn't putting 14 volts out to the battery. Check the stator wire on the alternator and the 3 wire plug make sure there is no gap on any of the alternator connectors and they are on VERY firm!

Hook up a multimeter inside your car and watch the battery voltage! if under 14volt you got an alternator problem!

Where is the alternater on the 1999 couger

which engine do you have? if you have a v6 the alternator is located on the passenger side of the engine in the lower rear corner. there is also a recall on that in regards to the voltage sensing system google mercury alternator recall, also make sure the connectors on the alernator are good and tight check the terminals inside the connector as well, my buddies 2000 cougar had the same problem and it turned out to be a loose terminal on the connector to the alternator. on the v6 version the alternator isn't all that easy to get to. i'm not sure about the 4 cyl versoin but if you look around you'll find it, usually on the passenger side
