Ckd the battery twice- started using better gas- tried an STP additive in the gas, replaced the fuel filter for $65- never had this trouble before it got cold- it usually does start but takes 6 or 7 tries. Each time it turns on & acts like it will go but then won't. Any suggestions? This car has no air filter...

Possibly a fuel supply issue. Will require a fuel pressure tester. Could be in tank pump or a bad fuel pump relay. In a quiet environment, turn key on (not start position ) and listen if you can hear the guel pump run for 1 or 2 seconds.
I have a similar problem- with mine, it's likely in in the fuel intake system See if using a reputable fuel additive like Seafoam cleans it out. The other thing is when did you last get the car tuned up? Bad timing could cause similar behavior to what you're experiencing. Also, when's the last time you replaced the gas filter and air filter? (gas filter is more likely since junk in the fuel line = cranky starting car that works better when it's heated up)
bad throttle position sensor, engine computer does not know where to start with turning on the injectors,if its adjustable try moving it slightly to give it more voltage, might have worn spot on the tps sensor,if it works replace tps sensor.
it maybe you need to replace the fuel filter do this put in some STP gas treatment if the car acts better replace the fuel filter give these websites a try www.autozone.com and www.alldatadiy.com if all fails stop by your local library and get your hands on a Haynes auto repair manual for your car wish you the best of luck Michigan Man.
i would put some STP- gas treatment with fuel injector cleaner in it may sure you have at less a half tank of gas and add a little more after putting the STP in drive the car where you can drive around 55mph or more if car gets better replace the fuel filter if you have a Shell near you use that they have a good cleaner in they gas Merry Christmas & Happy New Year as always wish you the best of luck Michigan Man
