There may a sensor for the gasoline levels in your car that will shut off your fuel pump, there may be a reset button on the passanger floorboard, do you here any sound from the fuel pump when you just turn the key to on position but don't try to start?

if the reset is not in the floorboard then try the trunk on the fuel door side, pull up the carpet and it should be in one of these two places, the sensor is for the fuel pressure in the tank and in the lines when your gas tank is empty and you unscrew the fuel cap, it releases all of the pressure, therefore tripping the shut-off switch, the system is thinking there is a leak.

Hi,You will need to perform a fuel presure test.If you don't have a fuel presure tester you can rent one from your local Autozone parts store. You must be very careful when doing this and follow all safety precautions.Sounds like a bad fuel pump or fuel pump circuit. if you don't feel comfortable doing this, take it to a trustworthy repair shop.Thank You for using fixya.....iluv2fish...Ray

I had the same problem with my 98 Stratus.....i ran out of gas and wouldn't start afterwards....checked the pump because i thought maybe it overheated due to running without fuel in it to cool it.......but that wasn't it.....It turned out that the crud in the bottom of the tank went and plugged the fuel filter up.....changed the filter and voila......it's good as new.....hope this helps you out.... =-)
