Question about 1998 Ford Windstar

98 ford windstar died during test drive after spark plug change

I changed the spark plugs and wires on my 98 Ford Windstar. It ran great during the test drive then just died. I haven't checked to see if it gets spark from the coil, but I smell fuel. It just cranks, no start attempt. What are the odds that the ignition coil went, or is it likely that I knocked something loose?

    How do you test an ignition control module on Ford 3.8 1995 windstar. I tested the harness connector, ok. How about the module itself?

I would think the coil is bad and i would replace it.

You have to check the wires for the TPS. Usually the wires break right at the plug.

You have O2 Sensor Codes

I believe you have a bad fuel pump,
thus low pressure and the O2 Sensors,
set a lean fault code

Check fuel pressure at the rail when you turn
the key to start or it is running

Changing spark plugs is something that
never has to be done to find out what issues
you have.
You could throw away a couple and it should start

Also NO Parts EVER get Changed until
TESTED and found to be bad

I have been having problems with my 1998 ford windstar 3.8L with rough idle and dying, i changed the mass air flow sensor, and air filter, ran gas treatment through it, and it hasn't helped, then yesterday...


I have a 98 Windstar and it would die when pulling up to a stop sign, slowing when coming to a stop or making a slow turn. According to Ford recall 98E03 EMISSIONS RECALL some vehicles may stall during deceleration when coming to a stop, during slow speed parking maneuvers and/or coasting thru slow sweeping turns. This may be caused by the Powertrain Contro lModule (PCM) calibration dropping the rpms too quickly during deceleration. This involves reprograming the PCM. The revised calibration will allow the engine rpms to drop slowly during low speed maneuvers to reduce the possibility of a stall. Call your local FORD dealership (have your VIN handy) and have them check to see if this recall has been performed on your vehicle.

MY 98 FORD WINDSTAR STALLS WHEN I IDLE OR COMING TO A STOP I'VE CHANGED AIR FLOW SENSOR, AIR FILTER, SPARK PLUGS, AND FUEL FILTER ANY IDEAS?


I'd be looking at removing IAC valve, and cleaning it out with throttle body spray cleaner, and checking mounting gasket as well. Usually some success with cleaning it & spray ports it came out of, but if not you may need to replace it.

the rear plugs are accessed from under the van, they are a pain to change.
