Hi, I have a 1997 Yukon which I recently purchased used. I am new to this type of truck and it's 4WD system. I had a problem where I could not get it out of 4WD Low and accidentally found that it will only disengage while in Neutral. I don't know if this is the way it should be but that is the only way I can get it out of 4WD low on mine. I hope this helps.Hi, I have a 1997 Yukon which I recently purchased used. My wife called me tonight in a panic because our 2004 Tahoe got stuck in 4wd low and she was miles away. She never put it in 4 low, she just started it up and it was already in 4wd low. We tried everything over the phone, but it would not come out of 4wd low. Finally my friend suggested putting it in neutral and then try pushing the 2 hi button again and it worked! I am not sure if there is something wrong, or if you have to be in neutral to switch from 4 lo. However, thank God she is on her way home right now. The selector drive mtor mounted on the transfer case had alot of problems with water getting into the circuit board and also the mtoro drive getting stuck. At the dealership I have replaced hundreds of these over the years.
very common problem with chevy 4 wd switching in out of 4wd is the incriptor on the side of tranfer case goes bad.check for a tsb [tech service bullitin] you can google it will explain more detail
If all the lights are out then the 4wd switch is bad but,if it won't come out of 4wd-low then the 4wd actuator is bad or stuck. The 4wd actuator is what engages the differential from 2wd to 4wd.HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
take the steering to etreem left nd right and then try to remove the gear stick strongly.....go front and back ....this is very normal in all 4WD and you should be with a brave heart to remove the stick.....hahahaha
