Question about 1993 Saturn SC2
This all started when I supposedly had oil leaking INTO my alternator (not sure how thats possible considering the position of the alternator) and my car decided to not shift out of 2nd on the freeway and I revved it way to high getting it to the shoulder. So I replaced the alternator and fixed the oil pan and gasket, but since then my car refuses to shift into fouth gear (its running in third gear when I drive 65, putting my tacometer at 3000rpms on the freeway). It jolts into reverse, makes a grinding sound in park or neutral, and makes a 'baseball card in bicycle spoke' sound when I press the gas. Obviously I think its the tranny, but I really dont want to pay for all that unless I'm absolutely sure. Its an automatic transmission and I have 140k miles on it (I drive 80miles a day, I really need this car).
Could my problem have started when I pulled it to the shoulder revving too high? I didn't have ANY of these problems before I took it to that shop, the car ran beautifully. Could this be electrical? I'm really at a loss here, any help would be greatly appreciated.
It sure sounds to me like a valve body issue. This means you should not have to pull out the transmission completely. The valve body is located right under a pan on top of your transmission, under the battery. Obviously it is not something to be tackled unless you absolutely sure you want to take a chance.
It is a very common problem on any saturn TAAT transmission, the pressure regulator wears out and needs to be modified.
