Question about 2001 Hyundai Accent

1 Answer

Transmission slipping I have about 65,000 miles on my accent and the transmission is not properly shifting from 2nd into 3rd gear. The rpms about red line before it shifts sometimes. Seems to be an intermittent problem. I had the transmission serviced and fluid changed but the problem persists. any ideas as to what is wrong or suggestions? any idea what kind of transmission work I need? thanks

I have a 2002 hyundai accent 1.6L auto with overdrive, when im driving the card in 4th gear around 40-55 mph, the car downshifts randomly, and usually after the second downshift it doesnt shift back into 4th, and the check engine light comes on and the transmission stays in 3rd gear until i shut the car off again.  ive gotten the codes for this problem, and states transmission incorrect ratio 4th, gear, and says to check the tcm.  So could this be caused by the computer, or possibly in the transmission itself, i was thinking maybe a flush and getting it cleaned professionally if maybe there was gunk clogged in the 4th gear. any ideas?

Dclev.....I have the same thing going on with my 02 accent. Shifting from 18mph to 23 mph is non exisitent. The motor just races until 24 mph then catches a gear. Korean junk!!!!

You mean like convert the engine to manual?, wouldnt that involve even more money than getting it rebuilt, Im going to take the car into the transmission shop to verify what will need to be done to fix the problem.  I do understand that manual transmissions offer less problems than the complex automatic transmissions.  And are cheaper to fix :)  (but im assuming a rebuilt will be neccessary for my problem).

Ive taken the car to the place where my extended warranty is covered by, and ive taken it there 3 times, the first time they said nothing was wrong, so they took it to hyundai, they said nothing was wrong so i had to pay $90 for diagnostics just for them to DRIVE my car around, and then i took it the second time when the engine light was on and they received that code that i typed above p0734, and they said it was a grounding  problem with the battery and paid $140, which these things were NOT covered under my warranty.  So the $140 charge was to replace my battery cables, to fix the grounding problem, and 2 days later same problem.  I know for a fact that a rebuild is needed, and is probably not covered on my warranty, because this car place just keeps jacking with me, and we got nowhere until now when im really starting to have problems. And if i take it in thats just time without my car which being im a full time student and i work so my car is needed.  So im just taking it to a different place where i will pay out of pocket just to fix this problem because i cant rely on my warranty.  For anything.

Computer need to be reset dealer only, autotransmission shouldnt need flushing ever unless a brake band starts breaking up ,then its a strip job and rebuild .put a manual gearbox in less problems

The Pacifica will not shift past 4th gear. It shifts normally through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. Their is no high reeving RPS, no clunking, no lurching. It will just not shift past 4th gear.

is there an OD button that might have been pressed .if it has lots of miles on it it could be needing a flush job . last one I got done was around 100.00 at jiffy lube.

2002 silverado 1500 HD Transmission skips second gear

have the fault codes read to find out the servo/solenoid that is not working'
check that the vacuum actuator for the transmission is working and that the vacuum hose is connected
that is the unit that makes ratio changes possible at certain rpms and vacuum settings from accelerator pedal positions

I have a 2004 Envoy slt 4wd auto....The car will shift fine from 1st to 2nd gear but rpms climb and it does't go to 3rd. I tried to maunually shift through gears, but it still doesn't get 3rd?

its most def a purely transmission issue i believe its the solenoids. have it taken to a reputable trans shop near and have them diagnose it with there speciall code reader.

1996 gmc jimmy will not shift to 3rd gear

Hi, It may be in LIMP mode.

What is "limp-home mode" ? This is a fault mode in which the transmission either loses electrical power or the PCM deactivates all of the electronics. The transmission will default to max line pressure. The driver will have Reverse and 3rd, with manual 2nd available by putting the gearshift in 2 or 1 (doesn't matter). 1st, 4th, and TCC lockup will not be available. It will not hurt the car to drive it like this for short periods, but use manual 2nd to get the car moving, and be aware that the trans will generate more heat than normal while operating in limp-home mode due to increased torque converter slippage during 2nd gear starts and no lockup in 3rd gear.

Common failures on 4L60E, symptom any possible repair:

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under-hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter :ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Trans seems noisy when moving in 1st and Reverse, noise goes away instantly if you shift to N or the trans goes into 3rd gear: Reaction planetary is worn out due to high miles or insufficient lubrication. Not a critical failure, but not a good sign either. R&R sooner rather than later.

3rd gear starts, can manually shift through all gears. When car has been turned off for a bit, then back on it will run normally.: VSS dropoff w/ Hi-stall converter. The rpms are too high, but VSS is showing no movement. Happens after a tire burning take-off. Doesn't store a code, will not throw a CEL (I've heard that it will store a code if it happens 3 or more times). Cure: Reprogram PCM for VSS dropoff -- PCMforLess knows about it.

If you can get the Jimmy for no more then $500.00 and the engine sounds good and body is good, you may want to invest in the repair of the jimmy. Also note that to have a close look at the fuel line along the frame on the drivers side just by the back doors, the line is know to corroded there on all the SUV's

I just replaced all the belts on my 2000 Kia

The last shift is not a real gear shift, it is called "torque converter". The high rpms happens because the transm. goes to neutral. Get it to a transm. shop to be tested
