I have a 2003 Chevy s10 Xtrem Standar and I bought a aftermarket air flow sensor(jet Performance),when I install this My speedometer gauge go all the way to 100mill and the RPM's go up and down.
the motor almost stop and then go up again.
the first 10 seconds I can hear more air flow in an afther that time start my problems(check eng light)
Put the stock one back on and see what happens. Perhaps you have the wrong unit or it's installed incorrectly. If putting the stock one back in solves the problem then you know what's wrong... Let us know.

On a vehicle that age you probably have insulation on wires that have rubbed through somewhere and are shorting to ground. Look for where the wires go through the firewall to the ECM
not a good idea to do a voltage test on a computer component, it can result in damage to the ECM. if only the speedometer is not working and the other gauges do work, the first place to start is the speed sensor, it is the most common issues with inoperative speedometers.
The mass air flow(MAF) sensor is usually located between the airbox where the air filter is, and the throttle body. Look for the first big bundle of wires after the air filter and that's probably it.
Are you mistaking the engine temp sensor for the engine temp sending unit? The temp sensor is for the fuel injection system and the temp sending unit is for the gauge. If you asked for a sensor thats what they sold you. You need to ask for a sending unit.
