Question about 2000 Kia Sportage

2 Answers

I have a 2000 kia sportage with a ruptured heater core. i went to auto zone, picked up a heater core for the type of car i have, and when i took the bad heater core out i noticed a difference in size. the bad core is smaller and all metal. the new one i got from auto zone is twice as thick and has plastic caps on the ends and will not fit in the heater box where the old one was. do i need to order this part directly from the dealership?

Yes, I also have this problem. This was a real disappointment. Spending 4 hours just to remove the dash only to find out that the replacement is too big. Literally twice as thick. I measured.

    photographic proof here.

Does your Kia have air conditioning? Mine does.

I think that the Kia without air uses the 6 1/2" x 6 1/8" x 1 3/4" size and the Kia with air, uses a core that is about 1 inch thinner.

The trouble is that I have not been able to find a vendor that sells the thinner core.

I am having the same problem the parts stores do not sale a thin one. Did you find a solution for your problem? I have checked everywhere, even junk yards but what I bought was bad. I need this part before snow hits.

Removing/replacing a 2000 kia sportage 4x4 4 dr heater core

The heater is located under the dash board to the right and down from the radio. To remove and replace it you will have to remove the dash board down to the fire wall. Also, you will have to disconnect two hoses that connect up to it from the engine compartment. These are located in the back of the engine and down on the firewall about midway. Once you remove the dash board and locate the heater core you will be able to see the location of these two hoses. Removing the heater core is time consuming but it will save you about 700 dollars.
