Question about 2003 Saturn L-Series

Miss fires catholitic converyor gloss red

I have a 2003 L200 Satrun that I have only had to replace the fuel pump in 4 years. I now has 103,000 miles on it. All of the recalls have been done on it. It just started displaying these problems. The head lights flash, then the check engine light flashes. The engine starts runs rough, shaking the car. If you drive it long enough it will die, then it is hard to start. The catalytic converter gets red hot from half way back to the muffler. It shifts late and loss of power. At times there is no problem, it has just started getting cold outside. We have replaced the ignition control module and the spark plugs. The car ran fine for 15 miles late last night then this morning it ran ok for 2 miles then I didn't think I was going to make it to town which was just 3 more miles. It died when I pulled in to work. The catalytic converter was so hot it melted the snow and steamed up, with a hot plastic smell. Tonight it ran fine all but the last 2 miles. What can it be? I need help with Christmas being here and no money.

It is just the back half of the cat and the pipe between it and the muffler that gets hot not the front half and pipe to the engine. I'm not going to drive it untill it is fixed. They want $400 to repalce the cat.

check the power distribution box ables for corrosion, u have a low voltage issue, it is the wiring. don't run the car until the Cat glows red unless u want to burn the thing to ground, just takes a little oil and puff.

Your cat is plugged, its not letting your exhaust leave the engine thus causing all these problems. You need to get it changed as soon as possible. You can get a shop to put in a universal one they are usually very cheep but do it soon. They can get hot enough to start a fire as you have already seen.

there is a screen in the cat that can get blocked so anything after that or in the same area as the blockage will glow red from the buildup of heat. Check around for other shops , its a very simple repair and you shouldnt pay more then around 200 depending on your local shop rates. Be sure to specify that you want a universal Cat.

My 2003 L200 Saturn fuel pump quit working at 100010 mile. The garage has replaced it 2 times now in the last 100 miles. They have no idea what is causing it. It is now out again.

You will need it at a shop that can run diagnostics on saturns. I sure hope you can find an independent shop, and not have to take it to a GM dealership, who like people with big fat wallets.
You will need probably a high end scanner to scan the body control module. I think, but not positive, that the bcm has a hand in fuel pump control.
Go here and post your question. There is a tech there called saturntech who can answer all Saturn questions.http://www.2carpros.com/makes/saturn/l200.
Or go there and search. they do answer free questions. They also have a donation program to keep the site up and going, but do not require donations.

2003 Galant will fire but will not start fuel pump or filter?

It could really be either. The filter is the cheapest to replace (Usually around $20) and according to Mitsubishi should be replaced every 40,000 miles or so. I would replace the fuel filter any day of the week before going into replacing the pump. Hope this helps you.

I have a Chevy Trailblazer 2003 103,000 miles, service 4 wheel light came on , drove for 15 miles. When I turned it on again, light was gone , it did this before for brief periods, then turned off by...

The 2002 model year had a problem with the TCCM (Transfer Case Control Module) sometimes not "waking up" and flaky software. Another reason for the warning light coming on is a weak or slow transfer case actuator module. A technician with a highend scan tool should be able to diagnose the problem.

1997 ford expedition 190k miles. Engine was missing. code said it was miss firing in the third cylinder. Replaced all ignition coils and sprak plugs also fuel pump. After 100 miles it started with the same...

It could be a bad computer that doesn't fire the fuel injector on that cylinder. Or, the fuel injector is clogged on that cylinder.

The fuel injector should have a telltale click when listening to it operating on that cylinder, and it should also make a noid light blink indicating current is getting to the fuel injector, when the fuel injector harness is connected to a noid light.

Good luck on this repair.

My 2003 ls300 Satrun wont start

Need to have Fuel and Sparks to fire up an engine. Let's check it out..
1- Start several times.
2- Take off one spark plug.
3- If it is wet, there is fuel.
4- If it is dry, no fuel. Fix this problem
5- While spark plug is out, touch it to the engin chasis and have a helper to start the ening so you can see if there is spark strong enough.
6- If there is no spark, Fix this problem.
7- If there fuel and spark then check out cold start valve, it is bad causing flood so it could not ignite.

Dealer recommends 2 items, are they needed?

the transmission normally gets service every 75,000 miles and you don't need the fuel system service

Saturn L200 won't start after being struck from behind.

I am not an expert on saturn so don't rate me on this unless it actually does some good. On an impact the car may trip your fuel pump. This is to keep fuel from being pumped from the gas tank to your engine to minimize a fire. There is a reset switch normally located in the rear wheel wells in the trunk of the car. You may have to move a trunk liner aside to see it. See if there is anything in your owner's manual about the Fuel Pumo Shut-off - or Resetting the Fuel pump or related data in the book.
Hope this helps. If not, please stop back as answer keep coming in
Thanks
