Question about 2002 Dodge Durango
Trk heats up, steering wheel turns and after depressing brake pedal still unable to shift out of park iit happens to wife in cold weather more often then in warm weather dealer dosn't know how to fix problem been there thre times. PLEASE HELP. Since then friend at work with a dodge intrepid is exp same problem.
Not sure that this is the solution, but I found a work around on my Durango. If you take off the cover on the shifter there is a lever (button) that you can dislodge and the vehicle will release out of park. After I did this a couple of times, I haven't had the issue happen again.

I have a Durango of the same year. The problem is the shift cable. It will bind from time to time. Like any cable of that sort, the inside relies on lubrication, although it can not be lubricated, it comes lubed up from the factory. Early into the problem, it will free up when the vehicle warms up, because the lubricant loosens up.
In short, if you replace the shift cable your problem will be solved.
