Question about 2001 Daewoo Lanos

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Daewoo Lanos. Today, I couldn't get it into reverse. Instead of slipping in, it made a loud grinding noise, which I tried a couple more times, and it did it every time. Obviously, I didn't want to force it, so I had my husband push my car out of the driveway. It was only 5 degrees F, so I thought it was the cold. Then I had trouble getting it into 1st and 2nd and 3rd. It doesn't grind, it feels like the trouble is in the gear shift, but I thought maybe it was the clutch. Is the clutch adjustable for my car? Do I need a new clutch?

Either your clutch plate is worn out or the hydraulic clutch has a problem, do you have any free play in the pedal?

SOURCE: my 2001 daewoo lanos won't shift out of 1st gear

If you have an auto, you could have low fluid level, or your fluid and filter need to be changed. If a manual, maybe a shift linkage problem.

it could be an air conditioner hose popped. Does your air condioner still get cold?
You should see traces of oil sprayed near the problem.

Is this rumbling wheel bearings or transmission?

If the sound is all the time, no matter what you are doing then it is the Transmission going bad. CV Joints, Wheel bearing will only make the noise when in rotation.. Also remember that this is a front wheel drive car, so it will throw you off thinking it is the wheel bearings or CV joints due to the front wheel drive
