Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier
My 2000 Cavalier has been having problems starting. Now it will not turn over the starter motor runs but that is it. I plan on replacing the starter, could their be a reason why this has happened, for example my battery is ready to be replaced would a weak battery put stress on the starter?
If the starter motor is running, but not engadging the engine you have a faulty bendix drive, which is what makes the gear in the starter engadge to the flywheel, then retract after the starter has been disengadged. It may just be in the celenoid, which is the small round cyllender on the side of your starter that engadges the bendix. If you remove the starter and bring it to an autozone or advance auto they can test it for you to be sure for free. You will also need to bring the old starter to them as a core, so if you bring it to them before purchasing the new one, they can test it and the core charge will be paid for when you purchase the new one.
