2003 Chrysler T&C Ignition issue

Saw your post regarding someone who's car kept running after ignition lock cylinder replacement. My wife's car just had iginition cylinder fail yesterday. I did the tap the key, use WD40, get the car home and replace cylinder fix.

Just got the new key cylinder in just fine but I am getting the key in ignition warning once the key is removed. I also notice yesterday that the wheel lock was not working when the key failed to work. It still does not work. Any ideas?

SOURCE: key won't turn in ignition

The lock cylinder in the steering column has to be changed. I have see these wear out.

To avoid having a new key combination for the ignition, when you go to the dealer and order new part, tell them that you want to have it in the same combination code as the original. You will have to loan them a copy of the key to have this done.

The last step is you will need someone who knows how to change the cylinder in the steering column. In many models of cars, this is an involved job.

SOURCE: car alarm preventing car from starting

Try removing the alarm system relay, some car alarm has also a fuse on the alarm that you can remove.
Many car alarms unlock by inserting and turning car key while you connect the battery.

SOURCE: Car Won't Fully Shift into Park

You either have problem with the shifter assy, or the shifter cable has come out of adjustment.
If you remove the shifter bezel and center console you will be able to see the shifter cable. There will be a white or black lift tab on the cable. Release the tab and and place shifter in park. If it still does not go into park that means that you will need a shifter assy. If it goes into park with the tab released you push the tab back down with it still in park.

That should take care of your problem.

SOURCE: The ignition key won't turn.

It sounds as if the lock and tumbler may be bad. In most cases were you can't turn the key its due to the wheel being in a locked postion and jambed up against the lock itself. In this case though with the wheel that does not lock, its leading me to belive that the tumbler came apart in a mid point of turning, hence no lock and no turn.

SOURCE: Ignition key will not turn

Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!

Radio acts like there is no power

The radio, DVD and CD only function when the ignition switch is in the RUN or ACCESSORY positions .Your problem sounds like the radio and possibly the other affected devices are lacking power in the accessory position. This may be an issue with the ignition switch. These vans have a high failure rate of the ignition switch [not to be confused with the lock cylinder, where you insert the key] The power door locks should always have power. Check ALL the fuses both under the hood [next to the battery] and under the dashboard, if there is an additional fuse box there.

My 2003 saturn ion will turn over but willnot start

You may have two issues, one with starting and running while the other may be ignition lock cylinder related. You may be able to try using the spare key if you have one otherwise its recommended to have one made by Saturn and try it before determining that its a worn out lock cylinder. Then Saturn may be the best choice to at least configure a new lock cylinder with the original keys to match. The lack of engine firing up may be a simple cps failure.

The engine turning over but never firing up may be related to the crank position sensor (CPS) as long as you don't see the security light flashing in the speedometer or tach. The security light flashing would mean the factory anti-theft deterrent system is preventing engine running by disablng the fuel pump. No fuel pump = no engine run. Determining a faulty cps is by way of observation - the spark from the ignition system is observed. Remove the spark plug wires, noting the firing order carefully, from the coils and have someone crank the engine over so you can watch for expected sparks across the coil towers. A lack of sparks usually means a failed cps as the only other failure would be the ignition module that the two ignition coils mount onto. The cps is mounted behind and above the starter with one 10mm bolt. You can buy it from any auto store stocking it.

How do i change my igniton switch in my 94 acura legend?

To replace ignition switch on 94 legend, first secure the car on a level parking surface, engage parking brake, chock wheels for added safety. Disarm airbags, be aware of a coded radio / sound system, ensure that the 'disarming' code is available or it may be very difficult to reset the radio. Disconnect the Neg. battery cable from the battery post. Remove lower cover panel from lower dash on driver's side. Remove electrical connector from ignition switch. Ignition key must be used to turn cylinder from 'O' to 'I' when necessary to unlock cylinder from column (Steering-Lock Pawl). Remove 2 bolt / fasteners which hold ignition switch in place - it may be necessary to cut a grove into the top of each fastener with a hack-saw or high-speed-cut-off tool if fasteners are the original round-head type. Sometimes simply trying a good pair of locking-pliers with a tight grip will be able to loosten the bolts enough to remove them. Once the old ignition cylinder is removed, clean inside the cylinder opening, install the new cylinder & secure all wiring which was removed, secure switch with new bolts, test switch, replace covers & last of all, reinstall battery connection.

How do I get the old iginition key lock out of the

There should be a button inside the column that you push in, or a bolt to remove, been awhile since I did one. You may need to have the key in the lock cylinder and turn the lock cylinder.

Ignition switch replace

It is something you can do yourself (for alot less money)
I am assuming you are removing just the Lock Cylinder and not the entire Ignition switch?
For JUST the Lock Cylinder:
1. Disconnect the negative side of the battery.
2. Remove the lower steering column cover under the steering column. It has three (3) screws.
3. Insert the Key and turn to the RUN position.
4. Using a small screw driver - depress the Lock Retaining Tab. It is located right of center on the column in the area of the Key insertion area.
5. Remove the Lock Cylinder.
To Install:
1. Insert the Lock Cylinder in the "Lock" Position.
2. While pushing in - insert the Key and turn it clockwise to the Run Position.
Let me know if this helped. If it is the entire Ignition Switch, let me know with an email to this post. I will send the additional infomation (for free).
