Caliber will start for a second then die. when i try to start again it will not crank. i have all lights and power in the car seems normal. ill let the car sit for a few hours and it starts fine.

Well if the vehicle starts even for a few seconds .That means you are getting fuel and electrictal supply to give you a spark through the coils wires and disturbuter at least start up .
Then you say you let it sit a few hr's and it starts again
Why did you have to put a new battery in it If it starts fine .
You have a problem with your fuel system not delivering enough fuel .
You can pretty much rule out the electrical system the battery turns the starting motor .
The vehicle it 08 not really old enough for a fuel pump to go but fuel filters clog and that will damage the pump aswell and cause a condution similiar to what you have described and while your at it take out the air filter that will help to .
Give this a try follow the fuel lines from the pump to the engine you will see a fuel filter change it .The vehicle will likely run again
For 10 to 20 dollars out of pocket

I've seen many questions in the vehicle section that concern this problem, and there is an almost universal answer.

On an older vehicle, the fuel pump is often quite worn out, and it is never checked, because of accesability issues.

When they start to fail due to perfectly normal wear and tear, the common symptom is a temporary "failure" while driving. The car can usually be driven again after the fuel pump cools down and operates normally again, usually 15 - 30 minutes.

There are three items that must be replaced when this happens. First of all is the fuel pump itself, and anything else that is replaceable in the tank that concerns the fuel system.

Second, is the fuel filter, just as a matter of course.

Third is the fuel pump relay, as they tend to fail at the same time as the pump, if not sooner.

I hope this answers many of the problems that you, the readers, are having with your cars.

I'd guess: not enough fuel flow. could be a fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pump relay, fuel pressure regulator. No check engine codes? I would think there should be some that would help diagnose.

i had the exact same thing happen to me with my first car, a 1966 mercury comet.

i replaced the fuel pump, rebuilt the carburetor (twice), and finally rebuilt the entire engine! still, every time afterwards, the car ran ok, then would cut off again!

it turned to be just a $2 clogged fuel filter. i' suspect the same with your vehicle. after removing the filter, simply blow through it. any resistance, means it needs replacing.

1994 Ford Ranger Starts runs for 3-4 minutes then dies, changed ignition mod, fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pump relay, checked vac hoses, totally lost!!!!!

As with any no-start or stall problem you will need to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition issue.
The high idle usually means you have a vac leak or a problem with the throttle body or idle air control valve. The control valve is how the computer controls the idle speed.
You'll need to watch the fuel system and spark to see which is being affected when the engine dies.
You might want to hook a test light up to the coil to see if it is loosing voltage for example.

I'm a little confused. You changed all the fuel filters? How many do you have? If you have a late model vehicle, then your fuel pump is in the fuel tank. How did you put an in line filter before the pump. Is your vehicle gas or diesel?

have you changed the fuel filter yet? They do clog up. That or you may have trash in your tank, and the screen is clogged. Hopefully its the fuel filter. The pump screen is located in the tank, and that means dropping the tank. hope this helps
