Electical problem with 1994 Chevy C1500

My transmission won't shift out of low, the speedometer won't work and the brake light stays on. Also my heater fan does not come on. This problem had a gradual start. When the brake light didn't go out after starting the truck, I was able to just move the wires under the dash and the light would go out and all was fine. Now I cannot get light out, truck to shift, blower to work.

I have changed the speed sensor in transmission and the brake switch on the steering column. I have dash torn apart but do not see any obvious problems with wiring.

Can anyone please HELP?? I need my truck to work!

Thanks

OK, this truck needs a complete re wiring job. i recommend replacing all wires on this vehicle. This truck has many flaws in its wiring strands. this can cause a vehicle fire if not done soon. i would change the connectors as well. considering the age of this truck and how exposed the undercarriage is, i can most certainly blame this on faulty wiring.

That is a short on the truck wiring, and problem is getting worse, and causing new troubles every dwy more, as you keep turning on the truck with the problem on.

Try first unplugging battery contacts for ten minutes. This can reset the car ECU.

After resetting the ECU , see if the truck starts, if it does go to a mechanic and have the contact fixed, before it damages other parts.

This does not look as a bad throttle psition sensor, or a locked brake switch problem.

If it was the brake switch, it would stay on park, and even if it was a faulty TPS , you would not get all this collateral problems.

This is probably just a contact/short, or a defective ECU, I think more of a wiring contact.
The ECU should be also scanned with a code reader.

About wiring problems, you often do not see them, but you can read them with a multimeter.

Start from a problem, for example the brake light stuck on, and see where they get power when they should not.

You start testing from the lights to the fuse box, then test wiring from fuse box to instrument panel ( or from fuse box to control module/ECU/Relay, etc).

A common part where you can find wiring problem is the instrument panel for example, try to find the contact, scanning the ecu first, can make things easier and faster.

Speedometer stopped working and trans won't shift out of low gear. brake light came on at same time. replaced vehicle speed sensor but it didn't fix it

Hi! bigdowgi
Transmission is tide into the speed sencor somehow. I will have to look up some specs and get back with you. check your fuses in the mean time. Hope you at least have a test light. You may be able to do some test yourself, with a voltmeter. Hopefully you have checked the transmission for ATF fluid.
Some time it can be somthing real simple.

Check the multi-pin connector that goes to the side of the transmission. Make sure that it isn't dirty, bent or corroded. If it is, that's what could be causing the problem. (Mine got bent by 4x4ing and it wouldn't shift properly after that. Once I replaced it with a harness from the auto wrecker, worked like a charm.)

My speedometer does not work and I would like to fix it myself. I have a 1994 Chevy CK100

The speedometer is cable driven off the transmission. The first things to check are the cable and the gear that drives the cable on the transmission.

NO GAUGES & WON'T SHIFT TRANSMISSION

I would have the high and low shift sensors replaced first. If it continues to not shift it is staying in limp mode and you need to take it to trans shop to have diagnostic

Transmission doesnt shift abs & brake light on speedometer doesnt work

I had the same problem with ABS light and speedometer, I was told that it is the transmission control module. It has not yet stopped shifting but I have had times where it just wont stay running. It will start and then stall. Hope this helps.
