if u hear chattering then the voltage is low, whatever the reason this is the problem, have you had the battery teated under a load? Kragen and Auto Zone will test it for free.

Try loosening the terminals and turning them a bit after spraying them with crc dont take them right off or you might loose the radio code also check the other ends eg earth and starter and do the same if the battery connections don't fix it hope that helps

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have a 1994 GMC Sierra 2500. In my rush I crossed the jumper cables. It smoked a little bit off the battery. The battery was dead anyways, so I charged it full, but still no luck starting it. I have...

If you are hearing no "click" from the starter solenoid, then the rod is not being shot out to engage with your flywheel.

First check the fuses for your starter, and if that doesn't do it, then you better check the starter solenoid and starter. It sounds like that when you shorted the jumper cables you took out the solenoid as a minimum.

I have a 2004 GMC Sierra 2500 HD truck with a 6.0 L engine. Every once in awhile when I turn the key to start the truck all the lights and power "blanks" out just like it does when you engage...

Verify all the battery cables are clean and tight, check for acid intrusion into the positive battery cable as well also check the battery cables at the starter and engine ground connections for being tight and having no corrosion.. Turn the nut and or bolts a 1/4 turn just to clean any possible corrosion under them.

I turn the switch on a 1999 gmc sirrea and it would not say nothing.it will not start

Be sure it is in park...Sounds like a dead battery.....If you know for sure battery is good you have to check alll fuses for power...If the battery is good for sure and you turn the switch on and cant get power to any fuses or no dash lights then the ignition switch has failed....You will have to use a test light to check fuse power..So if all is good ...battery,fuses,and dash lights come on when ignition is turned on check to be sure battery cables are tight then it should be the starter....sometimes the small wire that connects to the starter solenoid will vibrate loose and all you have to do is tighten wire but disconnect battery before you tighten wire...check all wires connected to starter....If all is clean and tight then the starter has failed...hope this will help....I am standing by if you need more assistance...........................................metalpoet

I have a 2002 Sierra Truck. The battery is good.

Do you have crank no start?
Do you have no crank no dash lights nothing?

Items to check out Battery and battery cables (Load test battery and make sure cables are clean and tight especially the B+ cable off the starter).
Listen to the cranking speed of the starter. Does it sound normal or slow? Depending on what you hear you may want to do a starter current draw test or have a shop do it for you.
If all of the above are a-ok then move onto fuel and ignition checks. AT THIS POINT YOU SHOULD HAVE CRANK NO START.
When you put the key into the ignition and turn it to on position do you hear the fuel pump buzz?
No buzzing sound ... you could have either a bad fuel
pump or relay. Either way the vehicle is going to a shop for further diagnosis and repair.

Unscrew a spark plug attach it to its wire and ground its electrode . Crank engine and look for spark.
No spark! Now check plug wires and coil. How? Use shop manual for correct testing procedure .
If no spark is found coming from the coil then check B+ coming from battery to coil and ignition module.
Lastly not likely , ignition switch should not be left out of the equation. Your gonna need the shop manual for that test procedure. Good luck
