What you can do is get your self a refrigerant from Wallmart about $7.00 and charge it, in compressor it self it tells you what kind of refrigerant is require for your compressor. follw instruction that comes with the refrigerant on how to charge it.
AC is running and setting in maximum while charging and dont overcharge.
As soon as you start chrging the compressor should start running when the pressure build up.

Most likely the system is low on charge, the oil to lube the compressor is circulated with the refrigerant, so if the charge is low they disable the compressor through the low pressure switch.

Compresor dont get current

Autozone.com has diagrams for free when you register your car on their site. You can test the low pressure cut-off valve downstream from the evaporator tank by disconnecting the harness from the switch and using a good size wire to loop into the harness.

If the compressor clutch kicks in, you have either low system pressure or a bad low-pressure cut-out switch. This is a test procedure. Even bypassing direct as you have done can risk damaging the compressor.

Besides Freon, compressors need oil, the right type, and a small amount. There are Freon cans which include an oil charge as well as sealers and conditioners to prevent or fix leaks. Remember that the system has a volume limit and more additives leaves less room for the Freon to work good.

If you have low pressure, it is possible that what is left is contaminated. Freon is a gas. Air is a gas. The system was suppose to start with Vacuum negative pressure by using a Vacuum pump(Loaner item). This means that total volume inside your hoses could be wrong. It is easier to understand when you consider the Freon changes back to a liquid and Air needs a much lower temperature to become a liquid. So you lose volume for the Freon to change back from liquid to a gas. It constantly cycles like this to make it transmit heat from the cabin to the outside.

I hope my solution is helpful.

check the RPS (rear oil pressure sensor) and glow plug. I had this same problem 4 months ago, I even tried replacing the battery but the RPS and glow plug was the problem.

You will need a Spring compressor for the spring to open the Center Nut off without that and dont even try to open that Nut with the compressor. Good luck

I have cadillac deville 1991. need new gas ac

the shop is trying to sell something not needed. i have done many change overs without changing anything but refrigerent ant adding they oil supplied in the 35$ change over kit offered everywere.some have many years and miles on them and are ok.the arguement the shops will give are well sir, your compressor will go out.not, and if it did so what change it when it broke. the orings will leak.not my first change over kit job was in 1999 and the a/c still works fine. so get the r12 to 134a kit at walmart it will work unless it dont work now wich would mean it leaked out or some other failure. if so fix leaks/repair system then recharge

I have a 1996 ford contour with a/c problems.Laid off and cannot afford to take to shop. a/c won't kick on.Tried bypassing pressure switch and it kills car.Comp. not locked up.Thermostat changes from heat...

Yeah sometimes the newer cars have a different style of compressors that if you try to bypass the pressure switch then nothing will work. Have you tried to put freon in yet? Sometimes if it gets low enough on freon it won't cool. Make sure your a/c compressor has oil in it too. No oil means a new compressor automatically. Just because it's not locked up doesn't always mean that there is nothing wrong with the compressor. There could be a leak on the seal where the clutch is.

I also had a noisy compressor

Your compressor draws a lot of power even when operating correctly. When failed, you can expect that fuse will blow with all that extra resistance inside.
