This engine configuration probably uses an adjustable idler bearing and wheel assembly to apply tension to the serpentine belt that drives almost all the accessories. You'll need to loosen, (DO NOT REMOVE!) the hub bolt, then turn the adjusting bolt behind the wheel to provide the slack you need.
Or, did you mean the timing belt? That one has an oil-filled tensioner that requires clamp compression to collapse down the right clearance. Did that help? Let us know...accordianman

95 Grand Caravan se. Serpentine belt keeps coming off.

When did this first begin to happen? Changed belt or installed different pulley? Chased same problem. Solved it by shimming the idler pulley out so that belt ran in the middle of the pulley. Check the wear marks on the pulleys to see if the belts are running to the outside.

Installing a new serpentine belt. Top idler pulley will not slide to adjust tension.

You have to rotate the tensioner assembly. It is spring loaded. In the picture below you use a tool to grab the bolt in the center of the pulley and rotate the whole thing to get the belt off/on.

I changed the tensioner Pulley on my 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan and now the belt doesn't line up, what do I do?

Ew. That can be a frustrating problem. I would try to determine which pulley or pulleys is out of the 'plane' that the belt should be in. Make sure that the tensioner pulley is the correct one, and that the bolts that mount it to the engine are also the same as what came off.

Good luck on this repair.

How do I tighten the A/C belt on a 2000 Dodge grand caravan?

There's a spring loaded Idler pulley that keeps tension on the belt. If the arm that puts the tension on the belt seizes it may not be putting enough tension on the belt. It will need to be replaced.

3.3L?
Looking at the engine from front (right side of the Van): Stating at the Top, Going Left to Right and Clockwise:
Over the Alternator
To under the Idle Pulley,
To Over the AC Compressor.
To the Left Side of the Water Pump.
To the Right side and Under the Crankshaft Pulley
To the Right side and Over and Down the Tensioner
To Under the Power Steering Pump
And Back up-to the Left side of the Alternator.
Advise when puting it on:
Put the Belt around everything else accept for the Alternator. After it is around all the rest of the Pulleys - Pull the belt up - tight from the Power steering Pump and the Idle Pulley to form a loop, holding the Belt close to the Altenator Pulley.
Using the 15mm wrench or belt tensioner bar - rotate the Tensioner Pulley towards the front of the Van and then place the belt over the Alternator.

Can't find the water pump on a 1990 dodge caravan

It is the pulley the closest to the A/C pump. There should be about 4 bolts that are 10mm that comes off. You will need to remove the belt.
