Question about 1988 Ford Ranger
Think maybe fuel pump or filter
If you tried to start it after it was already empty you might have air in your injector lines. there is a little valve, much like a tire valve stem, with a similar cap located near the drivers side rear of the engine compartment. its a bit hard to get to, but you will need to push it in with a coat hanger or simething similar and it will purge the air. Then try to start. You may have to repeat this a couple times but it will work.
