Question about 1996 Chevrolet Suburban
Checked alternator and it tested ok
Have you had the battery checked? Sometimes they will not hold the charge or charge thouroughly. Also check to make sure that all connections on the alternator and battery are tight.
Then check for interiour, under engine, or other power sources that are not turning off. I have one old car of my daughter's that I end up disconecting the battery until she comes home to use the car because the battery goes dead just sitting connected in the car.

Hi, I can't tell you exactly what is wrong because there is too much involved at this point, what with 2 shops working with it, but I can give you some advise on what else to check. On the alternators and the wiring that supports them a small volt charge is taken off one of the slip rings, where the brushes ride, for the purpose of turning out the light. As I remember, this is a yellow wire that runs back to the dash.
To the alternator, it would be one of the wires that plug into the side of the alternator case.

you can bench test it but u need to have something to turn the alt up to speed but thats not needed check your voltage make sure its between 13.00 to 14.85 anything under that then the alt is not charging anything over that then the reg is bad and if the reg is bad then just replace the alt the cost of a reg is more then the alt brushes can be found at any repair shop for starters and alt let me knoe how it goes

Did you test the Alternator on or off the truck? It might be a problem with the control system to the Alternator. The regulator need a battery feed to work, It is usually ran through an alternator fuse.
