Re: intermittent speedometer failure
Try replacing the speedometer sensor, located on the transmission under the car. There will be a few wires going to it with a plug. The speed sensor is a retivly low cost part, and most of the time when it begins to quit it will give irratic readings on the dash.
Hope this helps!

I'm surprised the mileage stops recording. Had a similar problem and found that when the car battery was starting to die (soon needing to be replaced) the same thing would happen, gas gauge bounced around and went to zero. A friend pointed this problem out to me, he had the same problem. Check your battery's health.
You may need another speedometer. The speed sensor sends a signal to both the speedo and the odometer. So if the sensor fails, both meters would stop working. The speedo gets power from the same circuit as the warning lights.
The speedo in electronic and can have various circuit board problems. I've had to cars with erratic speedos and in both cases the dealer said replace them and big buck bills. I found a shop that repairs them and charges $100 buck and free shipping back. About a 4 day turnaround.
sounds like you may have several problems here, there is usually a transducer on the gearbox, this may be faulty, there is always fuses for most electrical items such as lights, the window motor may have a faulty motor or it could be the switch, try swapping switchs from a good window
This is an electronic speedometer, nothing is user repairable, the circuit board fails and you get your problem, you will have to pull the speedo and send it out to an authorized GM repair station, they are all over the country, one company that does this is called SPEEDOTACH, LOOK THEM UP ON THE INTERNET.
