The cruise control should have a fuse in the interior fuse block, and a larger fuse and/or relay under hood in the relay center block. Test them with an automotive test light (You can purchase these for anywhere from $5.00 to $50.00 depending on the quality you want and the place of purchase).

If you find a bad fuse or primary fuse, obviously those need to be replaced. Relays can't be tested readily using the light. Unfortunately the simplest method for finding out if a relay is bad is to replace it. The relay for that cruise runs between $15.00 to $20.00 depending where you purchase.

The two left buttons on the left turn ON/OFF the system so that you can use the three right buttons to use the cruise control.

Once you turn ON the cruise, accellerate to the speed you want to travel. Once you reach the cruise speed, press the middle (set) button and the system takes over. As soon as you press the OFF key on th left, your car will coast / de-accelerate. ... or , if you tap on the brake pedal or press the brake pedal to stop, the cruise control will dis-engage.

Before you get into traffic, test the use of the system..
Also, the system may not be working, so it is important that you test it before you use in traffic.

I use mine 90% of the time, even in everyday driving, not just on the highway.

Are you sure that you need to replace the pump? I drive a 54 plate mk2 1.6 zetec that wouldn't always start and I was told it was the fuel pump in the tank but because the fault was intermitant I didn't have it fitted and found out that the car didn't start because the fuel lift pump wasn't priming the system before starting. I found that there was a faulty connection on the relay for the pump that is in the compartment under the glove compartment.

If the cruise lamp comes on and the cruise does not set i would advise inspecting the cruise cable and make certain it is not broken, if ok the the servo has likely failed.
