Question about 1996 Toyota Tacoma
I have a 1999 toyota tacoma 4x4 pick up.
i live in south lake tahoe, we just got our first big snow storm of the season :)today, i could not turn my key in the ignition, it just wouldn't budge. it felt frozen. my truck and i have lived in the snow for the past 5 years now and the door locks, parking break and pedals have froze or felt frozen before, but never the ignition. is this a possibility? if so, what do i do to fix it? is there a short term solution so that i can thaw it until after the holidays when i can afford to take it to a mechanic? if something needs to be replaced, i would assume the ignition, is it a difficult thing to do or could i get instructions and do it myself (i may not know much about cars, but i do know how to follow instructions and am mechanically inclined) thanks so much!
I think my wife had this same problem in my 99 Taco before. The key wouldn't turn in the ignition. I am in no way a mechanic but but try turning the steering wheel until it locks left or right then try turning the key. Once the steering wheel was locked the key was able to turn again. Not sure why it worked but it did the trick and never had this problem again.

Just a thought, but it could be the ignition lock cylinder needs replacing. You can do it yourself by buying a kit, or take it in for replacing. Only a guess.
Or, try warming it up slowly with a hair dryer to rule out any frozen moisture in the ignition switch.
