The most common cause of this issue is the fuel pump pressure check valve, when this fails the fuel drains back to the fuel tank, this causes long cranking times and stalls after starting in many cases. the valve is part of the fuel pump which is located in the fuel tank.

Check spark at the spark plug by putting a screw driver up the cover hold it close to an earth and get some one to crank it over ,the spark should jump to earth.

plugged fuel filter? You need to provide more information. Does it turn over fast enough but not start, or does it just not turn over?

I have a 00 blazer 4.3 vortec i have no problem starting it on the first initial start of the day but everytime after that i need to pump the gas pedal in order for me to be able top start it. i already...


It sounds like fuel is dripping into the intake ports after you shut it off. When you try to start it and right after it starts, do you notice a strong gasoline smell coming from the exhaust or even a puff of black smoke right after it starts? It may be time to get your injectors serviced.

I would lean towards the fuel pump, but... How dirty was the old filter??? if it was bad then the new one may have picked up whatever was left in the line. I guess I would go the easy route, replace the fuel filter, this time with the filter off crank the truck and catch the fuel in a mason jar til it is clean, you may need to drain the tank and try to clean it out if it is real dirty. OK i have a 1999 gmc Yukon i just changed the fuel pump spark plugs ing coil control module wires but she still wont crank she starts then shuts off whats wrong HEPL ME PLZ


I suppose that you mean it starts but doesn't continue to run. And if you try to start it right away it'll just crank. The fuel pump is on in crank but not in run ( maybe ). Find the fuel pump relay in the underhood fuse relay panel and use a test light to cheak the pins for power and ground. First with the test light hooked to a good ground, check to see if it works first ( touch the battery positive ) then touch all the pins of the relay ( removed ) One should be hot all the time ( if not the fuel pump fuse is blown) another should be hot with the key on. one of the others will be hot only in crank ( this is the fuel pump) The last other is ground with the engine running after started. The one thats hot in crank put power to it with a jumper wire and start the engine ( it'll run ) the fuel pump also gets turned on by the oil pressure switch and the fuel pump fuse is blown it'll also not run the engine. But it'll run right after it's cranked and quit

If the engine is locked up try pulling spark plugs to see if radiator fluid is inside. If so the intake plenum would need replacing as well as an oil change.

replace your MAP sensor(manifold absolute pressure) the map sensor is the computer for your fuel pressure regulator telling how much pressure. Unless your tahoe runs like **** going up hill than it inevitably your fuel pump

1996 silverado 5.7 vortec cranks but wont start. fuel pump, gauges, "idiot" lights, blinkers do not work. flashers and all the rest of lights operate. Just replaced coil and this happens


Had the same problem with my '96 Silverado with 350 Vortec. The truck would only crank. It would start if fuel was poured down the throttle body. Could not hear the fuel pump hum. Fuse was good, but could not hear relay click. Relay was good, Did some electrical wiring trouble shooting. Turned out that one of the connectors that clasp onto one of the pins of the fuel pump relay wasn't making a good connection, too loose. I just stuck a peice of wire into the connector and pushed the relay back in. Relay clicked, Truck Started. It's been more than 4 yrs. since I made that McGuyver fix. Still firing.
