Question about 2001 Nissan Maxima

Subwoofer not working properly after a few mins playing

Radio/sub plays perfect for a few mins and then the subwoofer goes in and out depending on the volume (if loud it doesn't come back on). I think that there's a short in the amplifier but I was advised that its the power supply for the amp (the dealer disagrees). Has anyone else experience this problem and if so how did you correct the issue. Thanks

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima GLE with the same subwoofer problem. Definately the louder I play the music the more often the sub will go out. It always comes back but at random times. I turned down the bass as a temp fix. I also played around with the wires in back by the amp with no luck.

I just bought a 2001 Maxima. The car is great but I'm dealing with the same problem. MY friend also has the same year maxima with the same problem. When the sub is working it sounds great.

Listen. All these factory Bose systems have the same problem. The rear subwoofer. Mine too. I can tell you how to fix it, but after i fixed mine i discovered that even when it plays perfect, it sux. The Bose subs in Maximas just plain ****. Do what i did. Cut all the wires going to the subwoofer close to the connector. Its a big red wire (hot 12V), big black wire (ground) green wire (remote) and a smaller black and smaller whit wire (speaker). Hook them to a good quality amp (mines a punch 900/1) and a couple good subs (mine are Rockford Fosgate) and be in bumpin' heaven.

Get a hold of the woofer connector (I believe its brown) right by the whoofer and move it around/press it/disconnect and reconnect and check if the woofer comes on. There is a bad connection in the connector for the woofer itself. I have a 2001 GLE my self and that's what I found to be the problem with mine.

I need to have more info about how you installed it, did you use rca wires from the radio to the amp.? Make sure the sub setting on radio is turned on. Make sure rca wire are in the input connection and not output, also check you connection from radio that they're in rite place. I really need more info about the map of your wireing

Tip

How to install a subwoofer and amplifier

When installing any electrical components always remember to unhook the battery. First thing you want to do is run your ground cable from a volt meter to a body or frame nut or bolt near by in the trunk or hatch area a shorter thicker ground is best then connect the other end of your volt meter to your battery cable that will need to be run through the firewall and connect to the positive battery terminal. Also VERY important make sure you have installed a fuse on the wire in between the amp and the battery. after you have connected the battery cable and ground to your meter it will light up or give you the correct reading for your ground, if not run the ground somewhere else until you have found the right spot. pull out your stereo, for stereos that are made to be compatible with an amp there will be multiple rca jacks in the back of the stereo. For a sub woofer you want to hook the rca cable to the rear or sub labeled rca jacks. Then run your amplifier remote wire to the remote wire protruding from the back of your car stereo. After that you can run the ground and battery cable to the correct slots. Now connect your sub via rca and your done. making it fit correctly is up to you. If you do not have an amp with a subwoofer out then you can take the wires from your sub and bridge the connection to your amp and get enough power, take the positive wire to your sub and hook it up to the positive terminal of channel one on the amp then take the negative wire from your sub and hook it into the negative terminal on channel two and your done.

Replace subwoofer 2001 chevrolet suburban

Should be a standard 8" sub, located in the passenger rear side. Remove the plastic interior body panel, the sub will be located behind. Remove the 6-or-so screws holding it in, disconnect the wires, making note of which wire connected to which terminal. Connect the wires to the new subwoofer, replace screws in new sub. Test the audio system to make sure everything is working properly, and re-install the plastic interior cover panel.

Subwoofer is not playing

It is hard to say. The sub-woofer has its own amplifier, although it is supplied the sound data from the main amplifier. It could have a problem with the battery power circuit (Sub-Woofer Amplifier Connector Pin 6, LIGHT GREEN/VIOLET) or it could have a problem with the GROUND circuit (Pin 2, BLACK/LIGHT GREEN) Or it could possibly not be receiving the signal from the main amplifier (Pin 7, BROWN/ORANGE "+"), (Pin 8, RED/BLACK "-"). Or it could be that either the sub-woofer speaker is blown, or the sub-woofer amplifier is defective.
There is also a "High Audio Mute" circuit that connects between the main amplifier and the sub-woofer amplifier.

HELP! PLEASE FAST

you can disconnect the sub from the car and test it to see if its blown by hooking it up to a regular house stereo. depending on what type of sub u have not all of them have protective fuses to shut it down before it blows. i always reccomend having more wattage on your speakers than your amp to add as a failsafe.

Speaker removal

Good day,
In your trunk there are 2 small amps. The first amp is connected to your car speakers. The second amp is connected to your subwoofer. Once you locate the subwoofer amp. Your subwoofer amp will be the amp close to the sub enclosure. Unplug the subwoofer from the amp. Your next step is to unscrew the 4 10mm bolts so that you can remove the sub enclosure. At this point you can now remove the enclosure. It will take a some time as it always seems to be up there pretty good. But once it starts to move it should come out with little work. I hope this helps with your removal of the subwoofer.

I need to look at my sub, too

While the rear subwoofer does fail, it is often misdiagnosed because of a rattle in the vicinity.

Try removing the little fold away hooks near the subwoofer (philips screws) and see if your problem goes away.
If it is still there, loosen the panel and see if it goes away.
If it does not, more than likely the speaker has in fact failed.

Most subwoofer buzzes have been either the little fold away hook or the wire harness just behind the subwoofer.
Actual speaker failures are much more rare.

It seems that your problem is actally the amp you are trying to use, many have either a switch or pontiameter to allow the speakers you are running either to play mid-range or low-range (sub) take a closer look at your amp that you are using
