Question about 1995 Mitsubishi Galant

1 Answer

I have a 1995 Mits Galant. There is a whistling sound coming from the engine, when you open the hood, it sounds like it is coming from the altinator. The distributor was just replaced. when we picked it up from the mechanic it started chugging on acceleration. We brough it right back, he said it was a bad spark plug wire. we replaced that, So now it chugs on acceleration and incline below 2k rpm and it whistles above 2k rpm all the time. What could this be?

Could be the alternator bearings (sound) or could simply be air getting in the hoses check all air hoses by tightenning all the clamp screws (which is quite common to loosen over time can cause the car to run like **** and the sound)

My 2007 Land Rover Freelander makes a whistling sound when vehicle is idling. Sound goes away when accelerating or applying petrol?

it may be a turbocharger if so equipted, lots of turbocharged cars whistle as the unit gets older..only other thing I can think of is something with the exhaust system.. get it looked at by putting the car up on a lift and inspecting some cars also whistle thru the radio ..this is called alternator whine and is usually correected by a filter in the power line of the radio...good luck

2003 mits galant, water drianing heavily on the passenger side floor board

That sounds like water leaking from your over flow tank? Is it coming from the area behind the glove box on the passenger side? If so, open the hood and take a look at the over flow tank. Is there any fluid in it? Is the hose going to the over flow tank healthy and without holes? Has it come unclipped or unfastened from the over flow tank? Has the tank itself cracked? Is your car over heating? You could have problems with your heater core. Is the water that is leaking hot? If your car is not registering as hot or over heating, and water is being sent to the over flow tank (because it is over heating) which is leaking or the hose has failed ect - then I would also suggest checking your thermostat to figure out why it is not registering the vehicle as hot?

When i give my car gas a whistle comes from the engine. It's a high pitch continual sound. When i let off the gas the whistle stops. It sounds like it's coming from the top of the block.70k miles...

Sounds like a vacume leak, chk. for a cracked or broken vacume line or maybe one came off. Does it idle ruff? With it running open hood and listen for a low pitch whistle you may have to rev it up a little.
