Vehicle will not start with the key

Vehicle will not start by using the key.. First time this has ever happened since I've owned the vehicle . I put a test light on the main wire connecting to the selonoid thinking the starter might be bad but it lit up my test light so I know I have power to the starter.. What do you suggest I try next ?

If when your key is turned to start the and you have power to the small wire going to your solenoid, it has to be your solenoid.

I have an 2000 Oldsmobile alero that want crank i`ve changed the ignition switch ,coil packs and crank position sensor what could be the problem ?

Antitheft or Security system failure is a common problem on GM vehicles. Every time you put your key in the ignition, the vehicle's security system reads the signal from your key to make sure it is OK to run. When it receives the "correct key" signal, the security system allows the starter to turn over, and/or the fuel injectors to function and your car works like it normally does every day. If you were to use a different key, or try to hot wire it, the system would shut down these parts of your car, thus making the vehicle completely immobile. This is GM's way of preventing vehicle theft. The problem is that the system is known to fail quite commonly. It has been failing consistently for around 30 years. When it fails, two things can happen. First, you turn the key and nothing happens at all. Lights work, radio works, windows work... just not the starter that you need to start the vehicle. This is a "starter immobilizer". Second, you turn the key and the vehicles starts just fine, but then stalls in 2-5 seconds. This is a "fuel immobilizer". It literally cuts off the fuel injectors and stalls the vehicle to immobilize it. These are normally, but not always followed by a light on the dash that says SECURITY or ANTITHEFT. These lights are to inform you of the system's failure to collect the information it needs from your key to the computer. If your security/antitheft light is on, odds are you will be stranded soon, if not already. Remember that the security system controls the security light. If the system is failing, the light may never warn you of the failure. There is a lot of info on this site that you can read up on.

My dash is displaying "BAS/ESP" light, and I've had to charge the battery just to get the vehicle started. Every time I turn off the car, the next day it will be dead again.

You have a bad relay fuse. Located in you fuse box under hood. Found this out on my own 2mts ago.ESP/BAS would only stop when battery cable was disconnected. Have not had another problem.

I have a LS400 Lexus thats will start then immediately dies, I've checked fuel pressure and have 40psi, it is not pulling any codes, has new battery, any suggestions?

Does the vehicle rev up to about 2k RPM and then die? Does it do this every time, meaning can you start the vehicle every time but then dies?
Was there any other things happening before or several different things? Example - black smoke out tail pipe, would not hold a steady speed and jerked or hesitated? If you answered yes to these questions it is a good chance the vehicle computer needs replacing. (I had the same issue, different vehicle).

If not, do you have any more information?

I hope this helps!!!

How do I disarm anti theft device on a 2001 ford taurus

Press the unlock button on your vehicle's key fob to deactivate the alarm. If you've misplaced your remote for the car, use the PATS programmed key to unlock the driver's side door. Then, put the key in the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. The vehicle's battery should be on, but the engine shouldn't be running.

  • 2 Locate the override button on the alarm box, beneath the driver's side of the dashboard. Press the button and hold it in until the alarm beeps one time. The LED light for the alarm should stop blinking, indicating the anti-theft system is disabled.

  • 3 To reset the vehicle's alarm, put the PATS programmed key in the ignition and turn the key to the "on" position. Press the override button. When the alarm resets, it chirps two times and the LED light begins blinking.

What can i do to program key for frod expedition 1997

In order to program your own chipped keys you need 2 keys that will start the vehicle. Start by putting the first key that starts the vehicle into the ignition and turn it to the run position(not the start position) and back to the off position. Within 10 seconds repeat this step with the second key that starts it. Then within 10 seconds put in the new key and turn it to the start position. The vehicle should turn on and the new key will be programmed. If you do not have 2 keys that start the vehicle then you will have to take it to a Ford dealership so that they can program new keys for you.

I have a 2001 Echo with 147,000 miles that has always run beautifully, and now suddenly, with no warning or sounds of any kind, it won't start. We have run computer diagnostics, all showing no problems...

does the vehicle have theft lock on it? i had a fam. member this week go three days without his vehicle that ran awesome too. using the same key he always did and all... i went and looked at his vehicle, noticed the theft light would come on when i put the key in the ignition, so i asked him about the key, and he said thats the one he always used, so i had him get me the original key for the vehicle, ( the one he was using he had made, and put the original up) he got it for me i put it in the ignition and the vehicle started right up.... there is a code in the key that the vehicle reads and if its not there the vehicle will not start.. Like i said he had used his key he had made, the whole time he has owned the vehicle, and it just now decided to do it.. dont know why... but hey its a thought.. hope this helps
