My 1996 Rodeo 3.2L v6 overheats when stopped in traffic or idling. However when I start moving again and pick up some speed, it cools off. The fan clutch seems to be ok (ie) it does not spin freely when I give it a push when the engine is off. There is resistance and it does not spin more than 1/2 a turn. Turning the heater full blast when it overheats seems to help a bit but not by much. Any idea what the problem might be? Is there a way I can tell if the water pump and thermostat are ok? I want to see if I can fix it myself without having
to take it to a dealer. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks. The reserve tank boils over and leaks, the front radiator fan isnt coming on. never saw it come on since i bought it used. overheating in traffic and at drive thru lines. Should a switch be necessary or does something need to be replaced? Got new hoses and flushed system, problems still persists. What could it be? Please help..
-   I have the same problem on my 1996 Isuzu Rodeo 3.2L V6. When I looked into the engine I noticed it does not have a fan shroud and it also does not have a small compressor fan. It must have been in an accident and the owner decided that wasn't important to replace! A mechanic told me the lack of those two things would cause overheating in traffic but would be fine on the highway. I am looking to find these parts used and put them back on.-   anthony300
Check to see if there is water in the oil...If there is water in the oil then it could have a head gasket problem..Did you ever replace the thermostat? If it is stuck then it would also cause overheating...Excessive exhaust backpressure because of a clogged catalytic converter could also cause overheating..Also check belt tension and condition. A loose belt that slips may prevent the water pump from circulating coolant fast enough and/or the fan from turning fast for proper cooling...Another thing it could be is a faulty Water pump -- Any wobble in the pump shaft or seepage would call for replacement. In some instances, a pump can cause an engine to overheat if the impeller vanes are badly eroded due to corrosion or if the impeller has come loose from the shaft. The wrong pump may also cause an engine to overheat. Some engines with serpentine drive belts require a special water pump that turns in the opposite direction of those used on the same engine with ordinary V-belts... Also check the Fan -- With mechanical fans, most overheating problems are caused by a faulty fan clutch, though a missing fan shroud can reduce the fan's cooling effectiveness by as much as 50% (depending on the fan's distance from the radiator) which may be enough to cause the engine to overheat in hot weather or when working hard.

96 Isuzu run out of gas... when refueled gas pump will not even turn on... warning on electrical lines to pump warn "that testing these wires may deploy airbag" I believe there to be a pressure switch on fuel system controlling power to pump and there is a switch in the airbag system that controls power to pump and they I believe should operate the same relay to power the pump.... if I am right I have one switch or the other not working or I have a relay that is stuck in off position----------- any info or advice on this problem?
