Why does my audi tt temp. gauge go hotter than engine temp. fans work changed thermosat , temp sensor ,and water is ok ?

i suppose i have to ask how it is that you know these temperatures are different?
is the car actually overheating?
Have you had it scanned for any fault codes?
You may have a defective temp guage...check it by removing the sender plug and see if the guage falls totally to the guage wire and see if the guage goes to max.

I have a 2003 GMC Envoy water temperature guage does not work every thing else on dash works

check the temp gauge sender unit normally located at the front of the cylinder head it will have a wire on it, by removing the wire and grounding it, this will make the temp gauge go to full. If so replace the sender unit, if not recomend after market gauge reccomended

Suzuki Forenza Guage will not work

the cost varies , by all locations on earth. as does LABOR.
but that is LAST. first is the cause.
it can be, the sendor , wires or guage.
I think on this year, just wires and sender. are top reason.
if you look close the engine can have up to 3 sendors for water temp.
1 for ECU/PCM.
1 for gauge.
1 for A/C engine overheat and drop out.
the answer is here.

Temperature gauge does not work. How can I test and repair?

You can test the guage by removing the wire on the engine temp sender and then grounding the wire to a ground. THen turn the ignition to run and the temp guage should go to hot, and when ungrounded the guage will go to cold. The temp sender is a single wire sensor screwed into the intake manifold top left side of engine, with a red/white wire. PLease rate me as this will help me out . Thank you RJ

The temperature gauge on my 2002 grand prix dose

the temperature sending unit on a 97 grand prix 3800 gt(which is also the coolant temperature sensor) is not accurate. the sending unit part of this sensor only sends info to the guage on the dash. the coolant sensor part sends info to the computer of the car. it is located under thermostat and somewhat difficult to get at. i had put a brand new one in and my temperature on my dash is all over the place---even with good thermostat and properly bled system. when i hook up a scanner to my computer, the coolant sensor is sending the computer(ecu??) what seems to be the right temp. anywhere from 194 degrees to 217 when hot. the guage however on dash go from 160 to 260 in less than 2 minutes.

Temperature Guage, '89 Camry

the cable going from the gauge to the sender unit is an earth return. if you take it off the sender unit wire if the gauge does read hot the sender and earth it out the gauge should go to the hot segment.dont leave this cable to earth very long do it quickly. if the gauge does read it is ok, there is no earth to the petrol tank. if it does not read it will be faulty. hope this helps.

Temp guage not working

If it stays "down" as in completely not getting any tempature at all? Not even too 100 degrees Farenheit,? Then more than likely its just the sending unit. Using I found the location of the sensor:

On your 1997 Ford Escort (2.0L SFI SOHC), the Coolant Temperature Sensor is located: clearpixel.gif Under hood, driver side, upper engine area, below valve cover, mounted in cylinder head

When ordering the part be sure that if they do ask, which they shouldn't tell them you need the one that controls the gauge not the ECM, shows your car only using one sensor for both.

Obviously check the wiring terminals that go to this sensor before ordering pull the plug out and check for corrison or broken wiring in the harness its self.

Let me know if I can farther assist you with your problem, thank you for using

The temperature guage sensor is located on the thermostat housing. I would start simple and check the wiring. clean the connectors.
