Question about 1997 Buick LeSabre

1 Answer

I have a 1997 Buick LeSabre. Today I was driving for quite a while...took a few trips into town. But when I went to start my car this evening, it seems that the key isn't working and the passive anti-theft is kicking in. Are there any simple things I can try before having to have it towed to the mechanic? I don't have much experience with car repair, so I really don't know how much I could accomplish on my own.

Ok, I've seen this happen before. The security light illuminates on the dash, but the engine won't crank. Wait about 10 minutes, try again. Wait 10, try again. The security resets itself in approx. that long. More than likely the little rubber chip on your key or the chip reader in the ignition switch is not working. Also try another ignition key, if you have a spare.
Good Luck!

Try replacing the vehicle speed sensor. I don't think it has a speedo relay and the Torque Converter Clutch would not cause this problem.

1997 buick lesabre quit running

Clean the battery cables. Test the battery.
If the voltage is low, the car won't run right.
Computer needs 12-14 volts.

Car shuts down while driving

It is very likely the part that is giving you the problem is a Crankshaft Position Sensor, they go open circuit when they get hot, then after it cools it becomes a good circuit again, this is very frustrating, had the same issue with my Buick a few years ago, replaced the coils and the ignition module at a cost of hundreds, DID NOT CHANGE A THING, the crank sensor fixed the problem and was $30.00 from Buick.

Shuddering/jerking on highway, pull over, wont start for 30 mins

Last time I had that happen in a car everything blew. I found out the root of the problem was my timing chain, but I can tell you, you don't want to wait to get that checked out in any case or you will end up with a lot more problems.
