Question about 2005 Toyota Avalon

Toyota avalon 2006 key fob apparently doesn't work

Hello, thank you in advance for your help. I went out to warm up our 2006 avalon and the car is not recognizing the key fob I had with me and would not start. It's the keyless start where the keyfob must be present. No mechanical key to start the car.

I also tried to lock and unlock the doors with it and nothing. I tried to open the trunk with it and nothing. I tried the second key fob and again, nothing which leads me to believe it's the car, and not the fob. The battery is fully charged on the car. HELP.

Your drop down list does not have 2006, but it is a 2006, not the year below.
Thanks again.

Thank you so much for your response. I did take the miniature battery out and tested the voltage. It was a 3 volt battery and it tested at 2.3 volts. I figured that was high enough. I did finally read that if you held the smart key to the button on the dash, like actually touching, the car would start. It did start but the car will still not start by pushing the dash button nor will the locks or trunk work with the smart key. I thought maybe the car had to be re-programmed. I will try a new battery for the smart key.

would enjoy hearing from you again.

It looks like you have the "Smart Key" (a small rectangular box) that does not look like a traditional key.
What you also have is a dead battery inside the Smart Key.
Look closely at the box; there is a little button on the side. Press it. This will release a small hidden key. After you remove the small key, use a small flat blade screwdriver to pry the case of the box open at the slot provided. Take the unit to a store that sells miniature batteries, and have it replaced. You will NOT have to reprogram it after the battery is changed. The life span of the miniature batteries is roughly 20 months, less if exposed to RFI, like sitting on a TV, a monitor, or other electrical device. The Smart key TRANSMITS all of the time, even when you do not press the buttons. This is why the battery only lasts 18-20 months. Let me know if this fixes your issue..

Do replace the battery; this will rectify your situation. That is why the spare "key" is provided. To open the door in the event thatthe remote does not have enough power to transmit the unlock command. I am sure that the battery replacement will fix you up. The graciousness of a FixYa rating would be most appreciated. Thanks; let me lnow when the battery is changed and the remote is working again.

Greetings, Toyota Ed. Your tip still works 9 years later. I wasn't sure that was the problem since both FOB's were dead - both the keychain FOB and the "backup" in the key basket, but sure enough that's what it was. I've only had this car since June so this was a surprise. Thanks again!

2000 toyota avalon keyless remote won't open/close the car; checked with Auto Zone, fob is responding which means it is no battery, tried reprogaming and it stops when tried using fob, what else should...

2000 Avalon keyless remotes stopped working: solution Both keyless remotes for my 2000 Avalon stopped working. The batteries were good (I checked them with a volt-ohm meter). The Toyota dealer determined that the remote used most was defective and it tried to initialize the receiver in the car. This caused the second remote also not to work. The dealer reset the receiver (reinitialized it after first unplugging it), replaced the defective remote with a new one, and reprogrammed both remotes. Total cost: $225 labor, 164 for new remote. Later, another remote went bad. I just stopped using it.

1999 Toyota Avalon, key fob locks doors, but will not unlock. When open door w/key alarm goes off and won't shut off until car started. Sometimes key fob trunk release works, but sometimes not. Alarm goes...

There are a few things you can do to get your key fob working like new again:

1) Wipe the board
The board inside your remote can get a lot more filthy than you think! When the board is dirty it can prohibit the contact to the circuit board when you push down on the button. Simply wiping the circuit board off can make your key fob like new again!

2)Get it checked
Go to your local hardware store like AutoZone or Oreilly's. They usually have a RF frequency tester. This little gadget will let you know if your key fob is sending a signal. If it is, you may need to reprogram your key fob to your vehicle

3)The old car battery reset trick
I know this sounds absurd, but it works sometimes and is worth trying. If you exhausted all of the options above, disconnect both terminals on your car battery for 10 minutes. Then reconnect them and try your key fob. This has worked for many people and I have no idea why. If you do, please comment below to explain.

4)New fob!
It might be time for a new key fob! No need to dread over the expensive costs of a new key fob, at Keyless Entry Remote Fob Inc., you can get a refurbished one for a very affordable price! You won't even be able to tell the difference. Just search your vehicle make, model, and year to purchase a key fob or give us a call at 402-671-5100.
