You need a clutch fan removal tool which is just a large open end wrench that is thin. Place the wrench on the fan clutch and give it a smack with a hammer to loosen it. It removes counter clockwise. You may have to hit it a couple of times to loosen it.

How do you take off power steering pump to get to water pump removel one bolt under steering pump

You do not need to remove power steering pump, you can rent a power steering pulley puller tool from most auto parts, just remove the pulley, its much easier and faster, they you can get to that end bolt on the water pump.

Replacing water pump

This is for the 3.9 v6 you did not specify motor size.
Hope this helps, it it does please leave feedback Thank You and Good Luck

The water pump can be removed and installed without discharging the air conditioning system (if equipped).
  1. Disconnect battery negative cable.
  2. Drain cooling system.
  3. Do not waste reusable coolant. If solution is clean, drain coolant into a clean container for reuse.

CAUTION: A number or letter is stamped into the tongue of constant tension clamps. If replacement is necessary, use only an original equipment clamp with matching number or letter.

  1. Remove upper radiator hose clamp and hose at radiator.
Fan Blade And Viscous Fan Drive-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines 81898572

  1. The thermal viscous fan drive is attached (threaded) to the water pump hub shaft. Remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from water pump by turning mounting nut counterclockwise as viewed from front. Threads on viscous fan drive are RIGHT HAND. A Snap-On 36 MM Fan Wrench (number SP346 from Snap-On Cummins Diesel Tool Set number 2017DSP) can be used. Place a bar or screwdriver between water pump pulley bolts to prevent pulley from rotating. Do not attempt to remove fan/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle at this time.
  2. If water pump is being replaced, do not unbolt fan blade assembly from thermal viscous fan drive.
  3. Remove fan shroud attaching hardware (two bolts at bottom-two clips at top).
  4. Remove fan shroud and fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly from vehicle as a complete unit.
  5. After removing fan blade/viscous fan drive assembly, do not place thermal viscous fan drive in horizontal position. If stored horizontally, silicone fluid in viscous fan drive could drain into its bearing assembly and contaminate lubricant.
  6. Do not remove water pump pulley bolts at this time.
Automatic Belt Tensioner Assembly-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines 81898573

  1. Remove accessory drive belt as follows: The drive belt is equipped with a spring loaded automatic tensioner. Relax tension from belt by rotating tensioner clockwise (as viewed from front). When all belt tension has been relaxed, remove accessory drive belt.
  2. Remove four water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and remove pulley from vehicle.
  3. Remove lower radiator hose clamp and remove lower hose at water pump.
  4. Remove heater hose clamp and heater hose from heater hose coolant return tube.
Coolant Return Tube-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines-Typical 81898574

  1. Loosen heater hose coolant return tube mounting bolt and remove tube from water pump. Discard the old tube O-ring.
Water Pump Bolts-3.9L/5.2L/5.9L Engines 81898575

  1. Remove seven water pump mounting bolts.
  2. Loosen clamp at water pump end of bypass hose. Slip bypass hose from water pump while removing pump from vehicle. Discard old gasket.
CAUTION: Do not pry water pump at timing chain case/cover. The machined surfaces may be damaged resulting in leaks.

How do i change a water pump on 1996 grand cherokee limited V8

I'll assume you have a 4.0l

The 4.0L engine is equipped with a reverse rotation (counterclockwise) water pump. The word REVERSE is stamped or imprinted on the cover of the viscous fan drive and on the inner side of t he fan. The letter R is stamped onto the water pump impeller. When replacing water pump, ensure proper pump is installed. Installation of the wrong water pump will cause engine overheating.

NOTE:On models with 4.0 L engine, front grill must be removed to access radiator draincock. Draining cooling system can be accomplished by removing drain plug from side of block as well as by loosening radiator draincock. Drain plug is located on lower left side of engine block.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain cooling system. Disconnect electric cooling fan connector. Remove electric cooling fan and electric fan shroud assembly (if equipped).
Loosen, but do not remove, 4 water pump pulley-to-water pump hub bolts and 4 viscous fan-to-idler pulley nuts. Remove accessory drive belt. Remove 4 viscous fan to idler pulley nuts, and remove fan and shroud together.
Remove 4 water pump pulley bolts and remove pulley. Remove power steering pump and bracket. Disconnect heater hoses and lower radiator hose at water pump. Remove 4 water pump retaining bolts. Remove water pump.

to install just reverse procedures

I need directions to change my water pump

drain engine coolant.relieve belt tension .and remove the drive belt.remove upper fan shroud.remove fan or fan and clutch assembly.remove water pump pulley and coolant hoses from water pump.remove water pump bolts.then remove pump from attention to bolts location because they are different lenghts.clean water pump gasket mounting surface dont scratch .or pump gasket wont seal and leak .apply sealant to water pump bolts.install water pump with new gasket.if gasket paper put a sealant on it.torque water pump bolts to 30 ft lbs.if you got a 2.2L engine torque water pump bolts to 18 ft lbs.install coolant hoses on pump .install water pump pulley.install fan and fan clutch assembly.install the drive belt .and the upper fan shroud.fill the radiator with coolant.then run engine to check for leaks.WARNING AS A SAFETY PRECAUTION REMOVE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE SO CAR WONT BE CRANK BY ACCIDENT. ALSOOOO DONT FORGET TO TURN OFF RADIO FIRST BEFORE DISCONNECTING BATTERY SO YOU WONT LOSE YOUR RADIO CODE.

87chevyG30 5.7lV8 core plug removed w/out taking out engine?

You should not have to pull the motor to replace any of the freeze plugs, except the 2 on back of engine block witch requires engine removel or trans. removel. Depending on witch one thats leaking. There are 3 on each side, and 2 on the rear of engine, most common one to leak is the one above the starter, witch requires starter removel, there is one in the middle thats you have to jack up engine to remove engine mount to get too. There all located below exhaust manafold on each side. They are a bear to chg. but can be done without engine removel.

This IS EXACT Procedure Bu The BOOK
  1. Drain cooling system.
  2. Loosen fan clutch attaching bolts.
  3. Remove fan shroud attaching bolts and remove shroud and fan.
  4. Remove drive belt.
  5. Disconnect lower radiator hose, heater hose and bypass hose from water pump.
  6. Remove fan, spacer, water pump pulley and fan shroud.
  7. Remove A/C compressor/power steering pump bracket and accessories to clear water pump stud bolt.
  8. Remove water pump attaching bolts and the water pump.
  1. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten water pump retaining bolts to 12-18 ft. lbs.
NOTE: All water pumps have a sealed bearing integral with the water pump shaft. The bearing requires no lubrication. A bleed hole in the pump housing allows water that may leak past the seal to be thrown out by the slinger. This is not a lubrication hole. If the pump is damaged and requires repair, replace it with a new pump or a rebuilt one.
