1996 Oldsmobile Bravada squeak under the hood

I have a 1996 Oldsmobile Bravada with about 63,000 miles. For a while there has been an incredibly irritating squeak coming from somewhere under the hood (I think from the front - closest to the fan). The squeak is easily heard when the car is idling, but it gets louder as I accelerate. I've had a pulley replaced in the front by a mechanic, but it ended up being only a very temporary fix. I seem to remember the car squeaking again later that day. I love this SUV, and have not yet found a car that just works and drives as well as it does. I plan to take it off to college with me, but I'd like to know if this squeak indicates something seriously wrong with the vehicle - something that would make the vehicle unsafe, especially for highway travel. I doubt it, but I know relatively little about auto engines so any advice would be appreciated.

Squeaky noises under the hood

IT COULD BE AN IDLER, TENSIONER, OR THE BELT SLIPPING, THESE ARE SEALED YOU CAN'T LUBE THEM. IT SOUNDS LIKE THE BELT IS SLIPPING, BUT IT COULD BE SLIPPING BECAUSE OF A FAULTY IDLER\TENSIONER. REMOVE THE BELT, MAKE SURE ENGINE IS SHUT OFF, AND YOU HAVE THE KEYS, ROTATE ALL THE PULLEY'S AND THE ALTERNATOR PULLEY THEY SHOULD ROTATE FREELY AND RUN TRUE, AND NO ROUGH FEEL TO THEM, OR THE TENSION COULD BE TOO WEEK TO KEEP THE BELT TIGHT.

What is the popping noise in the front end when you turn the wheel

The lower control arm bushings are notorious for that type of noise. The sway bar bushings cause more of a squeak.

My father is experiencing a squeaking noise coming from the rear left wheel area (only in forward, not in reverse). Could this be a brake pad indicator? He has a 2000 Bravada

It will more than likely be the brake pad indicator as you mentioned. The only other noise would be griding and that would be indicative of a bearig or metal to metal on brakes.
