I had the same problem with my sable. You need a heater blend door. The one on your car is stuck and wore out. The replacement part costs about fifty-two dollars, labor will be more like about one hundred dollars if you take it to a dealership.good Luck

It won't be the thermostat...or blend door...Sable and Taurus have a design problem. The heater core hose going into heater core from water pump gets plugged up right at the heater core bypass junction. At Hardware store..Buy hard plastic hose/tubing about 4ft long that just fits inside of the heater core hose. My ACE hardware has white hard tubing. Cut one end of the hard tubing at angle to use it as a reamer inside the heater core hose. Now place the hard tubing on top of heater hose to measure the distance on hard tubing it has to travel up to firewall . Mark with black marker on hard tubing. Remove the heater core hose from top of water pump and slide hard tubing in hose all the way up to where the bypass connection is feeling the obstruction...rotating the hard tubing as you gently shove it thru heater core hose. Slide it back and forth and keep rotating it until you feel it go past the Bypass junction...10 min at least. Now take off the heater hose from engine on driver side that comes from the heater exit side...Use garden hose high pressure and back flush the crud out. Re connect hoses, add fluid to reservoir as needed. Or take to shop and have them do this. Many shops just back flush...Have them do BOTH! Buy the plastic tubing ahead of time so they have no excuse. I have been doing this on my 98 Taurus since 1999. Done many of these...If you haven't changed thermostat for 4 years ...Change that as well. You tube has videos. Email me at davefudally@hotmail.com I promise you hot air...from the car!

Turn the heat control from cold to hot but it still blows cold air

porbably your cabin heater (radiator like aparatus inside dash) is clogged with debris. you need to replace it if your blower works but it blows only cold air. but be sure that your engine is warm.

I have a 2001 Mercury sable with climate control. The air-conditioning works fine the first time the car is started for the day, or if it sits for approxamately 3 hours. But if I drive up to the store, and...

the heat exchanger will do that ,, its normal and should only blow warm air for a minute or two, as long as it starts cooling again,, thats fine , and actually a Ford Motor Company trait

My 2000 mercury sable the heater blows warm air not hot. the coolant has been checked and the thermostat has been changed still no heat. what could be the problem

Have you checked for air in the system ? Some of the V-6 engines have an air bleeder on top of the intake manifold to release trapped air. What you do is fill the rad to the top , start the cold engine and open the bleeder untill fluid comes out meaning the air has been vented. With air in the system the heater does not transfer heat efficently. You can also vent an engine by squeezing the upper radiator hose with the engine off and cold. Never open a hot system. The squeeze method is easy. With cold engine remove the cap and fill the radiator almost to where it will spill over. Then slowly squeeze the upper radiator hose and you will see the air escape. When you release the prussure you will see the level drop slightly. Now if you do not have air in that system you will need to check the heater core flow. With everything closed up and full start the engine and let it warm up. Now feel the two hoses in and out of the heater core where it goes thru the firewall in one is cold and one is warm then your heater core is plugged. You can try a flush at this point but it usually needs to be replaced. Thanks for asking at Fixya.com.

I have a 99 mercury sable and it will blue warm air for a minute but then nothing but cold air can anyone tell me what to do

Sounds like radiator is low. Check and top up when engine is cold. If that is not the problem then it might be a plugged heater core or defective heater switch. These would be repaired by mechanic or someone that is familiar with that type of work. Check radiator first.

Hello. You are in luck. I just had this same issue in my shop this week. We changed the thermostat, and replaced the coolant. Fixed it right up. Since you did not mention a new thermostat, that would be my next move, if I were you.

Heater doesn't work

Sounds like the heater core is stopped up. Try removing the heater hoses and backflushing the core.If this doesn't work replace the core.
