Question about 1998 GMC Yukon

1 Answer

If the vehicle sits for a couple of days without being started it fails to start.

However, the first start of the day (or otherwise after sitting a very long while, more than a grocery shop, etc) it will not start on the first crank. It DOES typically start readily after the second crank. These cranks are typical in length and sound. Holding a startup crank does not yield results (as compared to two short cranks).

It is winter, so I am not sure if it turns over more readily when its warmer outside. This has been typical for ~20 to ~40ºF in temperature.

An arctic front came through last night and it hit below -0- and and under +10ºF. The truck did not start, despite long and short cranks. I eventually ran the battery low and have been recharging.

2001 Rodeo 2.8 Turbo Diesel running perfectly one day won't run the next. Seems to be after it sits for a couple of days. Any suggestions?

Hi Peter, If the vehicle turns on the starter all the time, and sometimes starts and other times fails, check the fuel filter for leakage. Sometimes air gets into the fuel system. When it gives problems, open the bonnet (hood) and have someone pump the pump on top of the filter housing. If it feels soft when beginning to pump, I would suspect either a leakage on the fuel line or the filter housing. If you need to replace the housing and filter, remember to fill the replacement filter with clean diesel fuel first. the glow plugs can also cause problems if one or more have burned out. Regards John

I have taken to 3 mechanics, the problem will not happend with the mechanic. The 1997 mitsibishi galant will start up without a problem, then without reason won't start. It is not battery, not the starter....

Manual transmission - the safety switch attached to the clutch pedal was the problem found in my Honda. (If you have a manuaI transmission an have to depress the clutch to the floor in order to start the vehicle thats what my car was doing.) I also did the same process of elimiation prior to that with the Alternator, Starter etc neg results.

When we turn key car is dead. Car has been sitting for 2 months.

replace your battery, a battery discharges every day you dont run the alt. to charge it up... after a week or 2 weeks the battery would be dead, just from a car sitting not being started... if you are not using the vehicle, it is a good thing to replace the battery, and every couple days just start the car up and let it run a while to charge the battery.... if you are going to have to leave the car for a while without starting it, then disconnect the battery, and remove it from the vehicle... you can buy a cheap trickel charger for the battery when it is out that will keep it charged till you decide to put it back in.... hope this helps you...
