Key stuck in ignition, when cold it is paaark

I have this problem as well in my 1990 integra, it's not the steering lock, It's most often when cold as well, I think it might be a groove that needs to be sanded in my shift console that's not allowing my car to properly go into park. If I slam it into park the key seems to come out okay.

Any other ideas of what this could be?

Same problem. It is NOT the steering lock. It has to do with the shifter.

I have a '92 Integra and it has had this problem for the past eight years. It's only an issue when the temperature drops below 30 degrees. I've been told that the issue is with the transmission selector switch, but I haven't been able to fix it.

I had same problem and replaced the shifter cable. It fixed the problem to the point that I only spend about a minute or less in the car waiting for the parking light to come on.

After stopping the car the key is stuck in my 1991 Integra, now I cannot move my gear shifter and the battery has died.

I finally just had this fixed, after dealing with it the past year or so (1992 Integra). They replaced the shifter switch (parts and labor cost me $150), and it's been fine ever since!

I have this problem too. My mechanic said it was probably too many cups of coffee spilled in it over the years. I keep an extra key to bypass the shift lock, and even in our cold Canadian winters the gear shifter will drop into park in a minute or two.

Move the steering wheel gently side to side as you try and remove the key... it's quite possibly the steering lock.

Ignition key stuck

could be an issue with the cable that goes down to the shifter being stiff in cold weather. The key lock may not know the shifter is in park to be able to turn to the lock position.

My key won't go into ignition on my 2007 jetta

Try moving wheel back and forth while putting key in. Or if thats not it, take a screw driver flathead and try to turn ignition both ways just a bit. Sometimes those key cylinders dont go back into the open key position. Try that as you are moving the whhel as well. but my car does the same thing in the cold, and a screw driver seems to do it every time. Good luck let me know how you make out. PS Im guessing that ther is not something stuck inside ignition?? Good luck

I have a 2005 Malibu and been having recurring problems with the key not turning in the ignition. It happens about once every two weeks and it's a real pain in the **** because I have to fiddle with it and...

I would replace the ignition cylinder. the tumbler are wearing funny and this is causing the key to not turn or get stuck . I believe you have a pass key system on your car too . so after the cylinder is replace or rebuild you may need to do a relearn with the new lock cylinder. Not sure if you can rebuild the key cylinder and if a lock smith would have the right tumbler codes . but i know for sure if you buy the lock cylinder from a dealership they can code the tumbler to match the original key

My car is over heating and i flushed the radiator not sure if it is the thermostate but 1 side of my heater will blow cold and the ignition key is stuck and will not come out

Brandon the theremostat could be the problem of why your car is overheating. Nevertheless, changing the theremostat is a cheap way to go. I always choose the least expensive idea first. Your thermostat does break over time. In some cars the thermostat may cost between $18-$20 and may take about 30-45 minutes to replace if your not experienced at it. If you are experienced it should take about 15 minutes to replace. This also may help with the hot cold issue of the heater blowing air.

Also with your key being stuck in the ignition, you may have to make sure the car is in park. If it's not in Park it will prevent the key from being removed.

1995 honda civic the key gets stuck in the ignition only when its cold outside. In the summer all is good. I had the switch changed but all that did was make my 500 dollars poorer.

If it's just the ignition switch you had changed then you might just try spraying one shot of WD40 inside the tumbler (where your key slides in).

My windshield wipers and radio haven't worked since the jeep sat around for about 3 months in cold weather. I checked the fuses. Any advice what to do next?

Check the ignition key. When you start the engine, the key must go back by itself but because the cold, it get stuck so, just turn back the key a little.
